Colind Veritnal Character in Frale Tides - Time of the Blue | World Anvil

Colind Veritnal

Known for popularizing Bone Painting.   His paintings cover his experiences as he travelled across Towerways, and along Bridgeways  His earlier works were of the maincities, often in hopeful and beautiful features of a city; a young aspiring commonform artist painting a better life for himself.   Once he attained the title of Licensed Artist, he started travelling, and was both stunned and inspired to paint the dredges of locations that couldn't avoid the Dust and it's poverty it created. They were not popular at first, and would often take a few commissions in his earlier style for well paying clients.   When he would sometimes take commissions of a Highform house or family portrait to pay for his travel expenses and supplies.    One client, after a Blackout, noticed how without the light on the portrait, everything looked just as grim in the portrait. How the city itself looked more like the dust, and claimed even the features of the family turned grim. The client bragged at every party, and Colind became a popular artist to commission, much to his chagrin. He tried to explain that's simply how bone painting works and he did nothing to "delightfully sabotage" the painting, but his voice was drowned out from the praise of his genius. From then, all his works were prized much higher, from his early works to commission pieces.   He was never allowed to paint the Frale District, as much as he wanted to. He was extremely saddened to find that Frale were generally disapproving of him, as his mentor was never mentioned in DEPART records. It's a popular if rural painting practice done by children to occupy their time in the districts, and don't believe he earned the right to become so famous over it.

"Her name was Olise Cixderl, the person who taught me. She wasn't even an art mentor, she was my nanny that loved me. DEPART refuses to name her, so I do. She was proud of me. ... I miss her."
