"Tell us another!" the child demanded. "Please," he added quickly, after a nudge in the side from his friend. Ikaika's smile spread across her face and melted into a grin. She leaned down to the boy, watched his eyes grow wide as her wild hair fell close. "What kind of story shall I tell this time?" she asked, her quiet voice and falling hair conspiring to make the question a conspiracy. "A boring one or a true one? A safe one or a song?" Ikaika took in the child's answer, tossed a look at his friend, then leaned back so quickly that her hair flicked their cheeks. She nodded gravely, grin still fixed in place. "So be it," she said. "I always did enjoy a good risk."
