Ostrunic

Geographics

Ostrunic is the biggest island of Cohrmas. Its land is mostly dry flatlands. This results in strong winds from the ocean, which makes storm tides a frequent weather event. On the flatlands are groves that break the wind a hold the land in place. The dry land isn't very fertile, but to them is the korzsim native. The forests are mostly made from kotrimciak, orenciak and the zirconic zypress.
There are some regions that are more fertile. Fertile regions are the region alongside the Gvichnot and the coastal Borlesda and the inland Pekctorins. The Borlesda forest is very fertile due to the many stormtides and the high magic concentration. It catches the water and only some water gets into the Pekctorins inland. The remaining water goes into the Pekctorins and makes them fertile. Beneath the ground are important materials, like markerrium or ostrum. These are brought to the surface by the Sizny which is the biggest crater of Cohrmas. Around it are many rocks from eruptions that contain valuable resources. With these eruptions, many trees and surface plants cannot survive. This makes the flatland around the Syzni, the Syznipol, a rocky landscape, but very durable plants like the zirconic zypress survives. In the west and east tip of north Ostrunic the land gets fertile again. The Okrenpekcs protect the land northwest from the Syzni. On the east tip is the Myrtvyles. It isn't protected by anything and therefore barely populated.

History

Presettelment
Ostrunic is with Nyc and Strenkiv the first populated island of Cohrmas. It was populated by normadic tribes. The population of the tribes didn't change much due to losses by sinkcraters and carnivores. They lived in the summer far away from the Syzni in the south or north. There they were protected from the eruptions. In the winter when it is colder and the ground not very active they moved closer to the Syzni. The magic energy of the crater keeps the area warmer.
This worked until the Syzni started to erupt in the winter too. Less frequent but it was enough to scare the nomads away. Those settled south and north of it in colder regions. Many stayed along the Gvichnot and in the Pekctorins. Less people were north of the Syzni. These stayed behind the Okrenpekcs and settled in the Okrenpol. This resulted in the first villages.
Baronies
These villages turned out to reduce the losses and civilization flourished. The villages grew and got too big without an organizing institution. This was staffed with people of families that could afford a non-working member. With more and more people the special local resources got exploited to trade with other villages in the area. Some villages were founded by other villages to exploit these resources. Over time this resulted in baronies. The most influential was the Pekctor Barony. It controlled the major part of the Pekctorins.
The empire Cohrmas|245 av - 908 av
It first appeared in the Pekctor Barony. It conquered whole Ostrunic in 17 years. First it subjugated the baronies close to it by force. With that it controlled the whole Pekctorins, the Syznipol and the northern part of the Gvichnot. This resulted in the the first Slaughter of Krawic. The southern part of the Gvichnot was the second-biggest barony. It united with the empire to support the trade between them and to prevent a war. With this the empire had almost every town of Ostrunic. With the last addition it got Drabylnot and the later important village Rajdova Velky. The addition of the north was done after 9 years of peace. In these years the young empire invested a lot in the conquered regions. It also traded alot with the Nycmor Barony. For that the paved trade route Syznoza was built. In the winter of 261 av, the army moved over the Syznoza to conquer the Nycmor Barony. That was the last war which was fought on the island Ostrunic by the empire.
After the expansion war of the empire the civilization on Ostrunic thrived. The cities grew a lot and many cities that are important in the steam age gained their significance in this time. Cities like Krawic, Rajdova Velky or Drevourliv.
At the end of the empire the conquered islands decided to break with the empire and five new states formed. Only Ostrunic remained and the people stood up against the empire. A short civil war began and lasted for 3 years. It was in the first months of the civil war that the opposing forces combined under the flag of Ostrune. After they won the new island-state Ostrune was officially born.

Ostrune | 911 - 1248 av
Ostrune wanted to be different to the earlier military-focused empire Cohrmas. It fostered the arts and many cities expanded in that field. Many people from the rural areas decided to try a new start in the cities and the agriculture in Ostrunic shrank. This resulted in some regions in food deficits, but expanding trade with the other isles helped to reduce the impact. From there on Ostrunic is dependent on food from the different islands. In the year 1120 a huge eruption by the Syzni destroyed or damaged many fields and settlements in the Syznipol. The north needed years to recover.
With the discovery of Fenria and Ideun the civilization prospered. Many families had enough to live a good life and the military seemed unnecessary. This changed after the great war in Fenria. After that the strong and victorious fenrien Donno Dynasty cast an eye at the prosperous continent. This resulted in an invasion of Ostrunic and the fall of the ostrune democracy.

The Free Isles | 1249 av - present
The neighboring island came to help with the defense and formed the Free Isles coalition. In the early stages of that war every island took part in the defense of Ostrunic. They stopped the Donno Dynasty at the beginning of the Syznipol while still holding onto the city of Baskavpekc. This is the Outsider War and it is a conflict still present to this day. The Free Isles expanded their military effort on Ostrunic and the agriculture on the island decreased even more.
Today with the steam technology new steam fields are developed to overcome the ostrunic agricultural issues.
