The first Slaughter of Krawic
The first Slaughter of Krawic is a story that is told by the book "The rise of the immortal Empire". It is a book written in the year 643 av and it describes the unification process of the empire Cohrmas. The book used for that many oral stories and the limited historic sources.
The book describes how the first Slaughter of Krawic could have happend, but from a modern point of view it has to be taken with a grain of salt.
[The Unification] starts with the departure of the Pekc Army in Bastavpekc. It was a huge army. The logistics for it were incredibly hard to handle. It needed many supplies. Every village it moved through had to give some reserves to feed the army, but the villages of the empire had enough to spare. After days of marching the Pekc Army moved out of the home regions, the Pekctorins. The change in geography was as sudden as the change of development. While in the Pekctorins the land alongside the route was covered with fields and their farmers. On the stony Syznipol were nothing to be found. The only visible things were stones and boulders. The army moved through the flatlands and the food got sparse. To compensate the army had to dig in the mud. The land was empty of life and they had to sleep out in the open.
On the second day the army came to a village. It had nearly no defenses and was very small. They did not try to fight and gave the army a place to stay. But the army was too big and not everyone could sleep within the defenses. In the night came the barbarian and brutal nature of the so called Syznipol Barony. The poor people sleeping outside of the defenses were attacked by huge beasts. An in the city the villagers attacked everyone that came into their sight. They were no match for the trained soldiers of the Pekc Army. After their first battle they were devastated by the brutal nature of the villagers. Many people died, but even more were thirsting for revenge.
The next day they marched for hours without finding anything. After ten hours the long awaited village emerged from the mist. The village was bigger and had a proper palisade. Like the last time the villagers were friendly and gave them food and a place within the palisade. This time in the night the soldiers woke up and started to search for the villagers. The whole village was empty. Then a loud blast disrupted the search and the sky lit up with a death promising red. Panik spreaded through the army. Then the first stone hit the ground. The next. In a few seconds a rain made from stone came down onto the village. The soldiers tried to save them self in the houses or in the cellars. There they found the villagers standing around a devilish object and performing a baleful ritual. The soldiers did not hesitate a second and the ritual was halted. After that the rain mage from stones slowly came to an end. The remaining soldiers decided, that the next village will experience their wrath.
The next day had the perfect weather for a battle. The remaining army got into motion and followed the road. In the afternoon another palisade came into view. While closing the distance the palisade turned out to be a wall. A big wall made from orenciak. The Pekc army arrived at Krawic, their destination, the place of the Syznipol Barony. As the diplomat approached the wall an arrow send him to the ground. The army set up their camp. In the evening their position was fortified. The bowmen got into position behind shields that protected them from enemy fire and moved forward. One volley of arrows followed after another. From the city black painted and from the Pekc with oil soaked burning arrows. After a vast number of volleys suddenly the wall started to burn. It spreaded and devoured the gate, the wall and the city behind it. The wrath of the army tore down the city. The people tried to flee and the ones who got to the army surrender immediately. With that the land was freed from these devils.
Nowadays this story of the first slaughter of Krawic is not accured anymore. With more and better historical sources it is clear that the war between was not three days, but rather around five years. But the text is based on true occurrences. Based on other stories and archaeologic findings the Syznipol region was very sparse. The region nowadays with modern agriculture techniques is still unfirtile. And the empire Cohrmas hab probably huge problems to feed the army. That is because the armies mostly were fed by depredation of the enemy territory.
The differance of development is probably also exaggerated, but with less food there are less town and villages.
The next claim of the story are the devious villagers and the huge beasts. The former is probably true. The Pekctor Barony was military the srongest of the ostrunic Baronies. The Syznipol Barony probably made such ambushes. The latter could have a true essence. To move north in the Barony Era the people have move through parts of the Borlesda. Normally this is not a big problem but the very fertile forest has a lot of life in it. This resulted in beast that are bigger than anywhere else in Cohrmas. It could be that some beast moved into the offshoots of the forest. If an army encounters that it would result into heavy loses especially with the equipment from 245 av.
The next village the army encoutered the villagers in a ceremony and the rain made of stones. From the culture close to the Syzni is known that they had ceremonies while the Syzni erupted to pray that they are safe. For that many houses had hidden cellars and the soldiers could have interpreted that as a ritual. But that would have been very unlikely to happen often. Through trade they should have known from this.
The battle for Krawic is very likely to be made-up. Krawic was a very well protected city for the time and a one day battle is way to short for that. It probably would be a long siege where the attacker managed to set the wall on fire. This fire could have spreaded to houses and destroyed the city. Old buildings in Poldom still have burn marks on the foundation and in an archaeologic site an ash-layer was found. This could be the fire which could have ended the Syznipol Barony.
But how it really ended is lost to time. We only can speculate with the information that is left.
