Nabozanitz

Together we defended this town, our town, the town where we found shelter. And we shall defend it hereafter with the same fervency!

Surroundings

Nabozanitz is built in the Misty Tips at an arch which forms a naturel brigde across outlet of the Tozrsyngur lake which forms the Bunott river.

Cityscape

Nabozanitz is built at the start of the Bunott on the moutainous bridge and on the banks of the Tozrsyngur. The old part of the city is on the arch, Bunott Bridge, and the western tabletop mountain, where the Uppercity is located. In the Uppercity and the Bunott Bridge live poorer citizens, the Mayor and Council of Nabozanitz. The Bunott Bridge has a lot of defenses pointing to the road that connects the upper districts with the syngur districts. The houses on the bridge are built very close to fit many people on the Bunott Bridge. To protect the city from huge fires, it has many markerrium walls. This gives the city the nickname the Kremydom, the Red Village. The Uppercity is not as crammed as the Bunott Bridge. In it is the small university of Nabozanitz and the education space for the people living in the upper districts. The university has a construction site and research facility at the edge of the tabletop mountain close to the Prosmylet, a cable car that connects the Uppercity with the Promstrimur, the industrial area of the city. It mostly transports materials too heavy for the steep road up to the Bunott Bridge, but sometimes there is enough space for some people. In the early hours of the day, it mostly transports the workers down to the factories.
Prosmitrimur is located on the bank of the Bunott. It has many defenses in the direction of the river. It also uses steam chutes and other outlets for other waste products of the factories. The industry in Nabozanitz is focused on building ships and works alot with the university of Nabozanitz. It has a connection to the harbour of Nabozanitz through the steam-powered flying tippers that move the materials from the harbour to the industry. This is a rail-led cable tipper system imported from Vyz, that runs above the streets of the Nabotrimur, which is located south of the Prosmitrimur. The Bunott gate is located between Prosmitrimur and Nabotrimur. It is a small castle with many experimental defensive technologies. Nabotrimur is the other residential area of the city. It is the place for the few rich people in the city. Many workers who work for the industry or the harbour also live there. The harbour of Nabozanitz is located at the lake Trozrsyngur close to the beginning of the Bunott. It has a big shipyard for smaller ships. The harbour has countless berths for many small ships. Many ships are for trade or fishing, but alot are built also for military purposes.
In the west is the huge temple and monastery of the Great Lionfish religion. It is the biggest temple in Cohrmas and attracts many pilgrims and tourists. At the edge of the district are many other attractions designed for tourists. This district has the other one of the two gates to the Tozru valley. It is a big gate with elaborate and beautiful stone works dedicated to the Great Lionfish.
The easiest way to travel to this city is by ship. To berth the ship at the harbour it has to sail past a lot of defenses at the side of the Bunott in the Prosmitrimur, the Bunott Bridge and the Uppercity.

History

The location was for a long time a safehaven for smugglers who hid from the eyes of the empire. It started as a temporary living place for some smugglers, but with the years, more and more started to settle and build real homes. These started at the top of the arch. One building from that time is the Lone Smuggler Inn. From there, the settlement grew downwards. Now its buildings and fields cover the whole area around the white lake.
The Eradication Campaign
Many people were smugglers due to the strict trading rules and licenses. In the empire Cohrmas, a fisher needed to be a member of a certified guild to sell their fish at regular prices, but also share some of the winnings with the guild. Some didn't want to be members of such guilds and those sold the fish illegally. To reduce this, the "act against smuggling" was passed. It turned out to be pretty successful and many smugglers were caught. This gave the military power and they accused more and more people of smuggling. But among the accused were a rising number of innocent fishers and traders. Nabozanitz wasn't noticed by the empire, but every day more fishers, traders and smugglers came to the town. The name "Eradication campaign" for the "act against smuggling" got popular. The council of Nabozanitz knew that it would be only a matter of time until the town was found and they decided to start building defenses. The newcomers needed to help to build the defenses to stay in the city. This way, at the time the empire knew of the city, they converted the valley and the arch into a fortress. This keep was a thorn in the flesh of the empire and it sent out their fleet to start a siege. It was a brutal and unending siege. The smugglers found new paths through the mountains and kept the town alive. After a generation of soldiers, the siege was too costly for the empire and Nabozanitz survived. With that, it built its defenses on the foundation of their newborn state. Every man who lived in the city must have the ability to contribute to the nonexistent military. With that, the city is made of willing soldiers in case of a siege.

Religion

Most fishers worship the Great Lionfish. However, most smugglers worship the Old Watcher. Usually these religions get along, especially after the mayor of the town introduced an institution for the religious questions of the city. In this institution sits the highest priest of each religion and both have to agree upon the solution that they propose.
In the early steam era, magic got more researched and they found out the gravitational effects of magic on matter. With that they could understand the formation of mountains and valleys. Except for the Misty Tips. Those were different and resulted in massive speculation about the reason for the formation. Some claim that Ether must have done it, but some claim that it has to be the work of Magic. This resulted in a massive number of pilgrims and both religions moved their capital to Nabozanitz.

Hello! Gave your article a read. I can tell you've put a lot of thought into this city, which is great. Not the easiest thing, but it would be cool to see a map of it. The geographical setting of the city sounds really neat. Though I will say that when I read they were built on the land bridge my first thought was, "I hope it doesn't collapse!" hehe   So you know, you have bride instead of bridge in this sentence: The Uppercity is not as crammed as the Bunott Bride

I will add, a take it or leave it critique. The article is really wordy. If you break up the paragraphs more and organize the visuals it would be a little easier to follow. There's a few grammar things that would be picked up by a free online grammar tool if you want to clean it up more.
