Redeeming Zariel

Zariel first appears in mortal guise to question the party, then assumes her true form and attacks. Lulu won't fight her friend, but calls for her to stop fighting. At the end of each round Lulu can make a DC 20 Persuasion check. If she succeeds, Zariel relents. Otherwise, Zariel persists until she is bloodied. Afterwards, proceed with the encounter as written. Lulu is present, and Olanthius also arrives to convince Zariel.

Zariel accepts her blade. She is confronting her angelic self when Bel teleports in with 2 ice devils. The archdevil attacks immediately.

Eventually, Zariel refuses to accept redemption in favor of the "cosmic burden" she now carries, but she pulls her angelic self from the sword and it manifests as a new angel with Zariel's former appearance. If the battle turns against the party, this occurs at a moment when the solar can assist them.

Silvery light explodes from Zariel. She grasps the blade of sword, and pulls from it a spectre of her former self. She releases the spectre and it claims the hilt of the blade. The spectre raises the blade high, gaining substance as she absorbs the silver radiance.

The adventure concludes with Zariel allowing her new self and the party to open the Companion and rescue Elturel from Avernus. Zariel may have been changed by the experience, but perhaps she has not. The new solar proclaims herself "Rezurel", born from both Zariel the angel and Zariel the devil, and an ally of the party.
