1492 DR 5 Nightal (The Drawing Down)
General Summary
Beginning at the great library of Thebestys, we quickly learned that finding information in a library of infinite knowledge devoid of any organization is no simple task. Some people spend their lives and afterlives pursuing knowledge within the library. A helpful purple person let us know the best way to navigate the library is to have a "key" to your search, though what that might be can vary widely. We broke into three groups in an attempt to acquire something of use within an hour.
- Despite Harad's steadying presence, Leo was a little too distracted by the library to make any progress.
- Milo and Iain chose speed over accuracy in their search for knowledge of Tír na nÓg. They learned it is a robust land of great natural beauty, and the afterlife for cultures who revere the pantheon of gods that Oghma originated with. Living beings normally find this "Land of Youth" in their dreams or after great journeys to remote and dangerous corners of their world. The land has no inherent dangers.
- Xander, Varanis, and Enkidu consulted a spidery soothsayer to acquire some sort of "key" to information about the Raven Queen. This resulted in the following clue:
- One interpretation of the clue is that the Raven Queen herself is the lock, and a revelatory idea is the key to her.
- A second interpretation led Varanis and Xander to meditate to achieve focus or clarity before searching the library. Xander was able to achieve the necessary focus, and led the trio to a book of poetry bound in a midnight blue cover. The poetry was moody and atmospheric, and carried a common theme of seeking knowledge without understanding the question being asked.
The lock you seek is confounded in shadow
The key is not a light to pierce the dark
But an idea to bring a dawn
Armed with this knowledge, we headed out for Oghma's realm. The trip took 7 "days", marked by the lightening and darkening of the "sky" above the Outlands. We travelled through mountains where we passed stone giants on some quest of their own. We travelled across a great lake in a boat of Shou dreamers, coming ashore in a marsh before eventually reaching our desintation. Along the way, we saw in the distance realms that may have been Wonderhome, the domain of Gond, and the realm of the enigmatic arbiters of destiny known as the Fates or the Norns.
We stand atop a tall hill overlooking a majestic land. The fields and forests are rugged but lush, mist and fog balances sun, rolling hills alternate with wide plains, and winding rivers flow out from a massive central lake.
