1492 DR 3 Nightal (The Drawing Down)
General Summary
At the Ten Steps Inn, Arfur was unconvinced his future was going to be bright. After discussing several ideas, Ovak and Pern revisited Arfur's villa in an attempt to negotiate with the refugees, They found "Nighteye" watching over the place, but sent him running after a brief altercation.
Within the villa, the duo met what turned out to be some decent but desparate merchants aware of their actions and entirely willing to make restitution and set things right with Arfur. Comments they made led to the realization that Shava, leader of the Rivington Rats gang, orchestrated the whole affair so that she could extort money from Arfur (who she clearly believes has more money that he actually does). The merchants have the wealth they were returning home with, but are loathe to part with much of it as they need it to rebuild their lives outside Elturel. They were suspicious at the beginning, but learning that Pern is a cleric of Waukeen helped convince them to trust the duo and believe their future might start in Rivington.
They also investigated a "haunting" in Arfur's basement workshop, and encountered a mysterious voice calling itself "Skalech". Claiming it needed the help of mortals to return to its home, the pair made a deal to host its familiar, a raven that can turn invisible, in exchange for the familiar aiding them in their goals.
Returning to the inn, Pern and Ovak found an angry and terrified Arfur, who had been threatened by Shava's people while he waited alone. His demeanor changed when he learned of Shava's role in his dilemma, but Shava is clearly unhappy with the sequence of events. Preparing to face Shava, the duo decided to hire the dragonborn mercenary Ghesh, paying him 2 GP to watch their backs.
Oh, and Shava is a wererat.
