1492 DR 2 Nightal (The Drawing Down)
General Summary
After some discussion about next steps, we decided first to go to Everlund and ensure our allies had not fallen victim to the Prince of Frost, then to Candlekeep for research. The trip to Everlund was uneventful, the Moonlord Davianna informing us that our friends had gone in pursuit of their missing samurai friend, which might account for our inability to contact Kesian. We then travelled to Candlekeep.
The book we took from the Cult of Zariel in Baldur's Gate was our entry fee for Candlekeep. The first day, we researched the history of the Prince of Frost and The Raven Queen. We learned little about the Prince of Frost, but we learned of two distinct aspects of the Raven Queen: one a goddess of death and fate, the other obsessed with memory and identity, both possessing knowledge gleaned from the memories of mortals.
The second day, we focused on more specific questions.
- Any stories of how mortals sought out and survived the Raven Queen and got what they were after.
- The oldest recorded tale of the Prince of Frost.
- Any entities who have thwarted the Pale Prince in the past and may be amenable to aiding mortals.
- The origin of magic that could wipe knowledge from the entire multiverse and prevent it from being known.
- Any origin for the Prince of Frost's hatred of mortal heroes.
These lines of research revealed more interesting clues.
- One man sought knowledge from the Raven Queen and succeeded by first visiting Oghma.
- Both Oghma and Shevarash, the elven god of vengeance and loss, have opposed the Prince of Frost. Oghma is offended by the magic the Prince used to destroy knowledge. The nature of Shevarash's enmity is unknown.
- One entity capable of producing the magic the Prince of Frost used is Ilsensine, the alien divinity worshipped by the illithids.
We did not learn any origin for the Prince's hatred of mortal heroes, nor the earliest tale written about him.
On a personal note, Harad also asked for anything the Avowed could find about the dwarf clan or king from which Ranagrim emerged. On the second day, they found the name of a disappeared clan in the Sunset Mountains: Silverstone.
