KWN.2.10 Treasure & Travel

Session Preface

The supernatural fog, a constant foreboding companion over the last days of travel, slowly recedes, like the tide rolling out. As you catch your breath, the overwhelming stench of decay and rot rises to your nostrils. Captain Grapeshot wipes away his watering eyes, coughing out,   "Well, that's more than enough excitement for one day. Let's go back down and see about this bandit king's trove of treasures, shall we?"   Descending the spiral stairs into the barrow once more, you pass underneath the now lifeless statues and through the stone doors that no longer glow with the dull blue seals of Deckon Thar's hold over the region. In his burial chamber, you notice once again the sarcophagus, formed entirely of solid gold with gems embedded throughout.   "I guess the old bastard really didn't want anyone to take his stuff. Damn." As the dwarf considers ways to pry loose the gems, you notice a shimmer of polished metal tucked underneath the pile of skeletons on either side. "Of fucking course," Grapeshot continues, following your eyes, "who brought a shovel?"

Session Summary

Using their shields and equipment the traveling companions spend several hours of the evening uncovering Deckon Thar's treasure haul buried beneath the skeletal remains of his loyal followers. After negotiating a split of the proceeds between Silverymoon and the Knight's own plans to rebuild Sundabar and their Order, the party packs their share of the treasure into a newfound Bag of Holding and proceed to leave the barrows behind in favor of a more comfortable places to rest. With the dawn light breaking over the eastern peaks, the party stops to rest, creating a campfire to unwind from the harrowing evening's events.   Before retiring, Marthen approaches Aethuriel, revealing that he had thought to ask to be a squire to Aethuriel for realizing just how dangerous the Shied's missions are. Marthen reveals his own selfdoubts in his promotion and his capabilities. Aethuriel praises the young Helmite for his bravery and steadfastness, encouraging him to continue growing in his faith and fortitude as he already is doing. Inspired by the Shield's word of confidence, Marthen agrees to remain in Silverymoon and continue raising funds for the Knights with his efforts.   That evening, each of the three Knights experience a distant, unsettling vision.   Arriving back in Silverymoon by the sunset of the next day, the party bids farewell to Captain Grapeshot and retires shortly thereafter for drinks and well-earned rest. The next morning, the Knights introduce themselves to High Lord Methrammar, returning the crown to its rightful wearer. Humbled by such an act, the High Lord fondly recalls his mother's reign, wishing she could have worn the Truesilver Crown as well, before promising to "one day earn the weight of it." In return, Tristain requests that Methrammar be loyal to the rebuilding and restoration efforts of the Knights, to which he heartily agrees to, sharing that he is working on legislation to further expand the regional operations of the Spellguard and Knights in Silver. With an accord struck, the party take their leave of the new High Lord.   Remembering their agreed upon task of tracking down some Will-O-Wisps and a Shambling Mound in the Moonwood for the Map House's Esklindrar, the party treks northward, eventually tracking down the creatures they seek. The Will-O-Wisps prove a greater threat than expected, but the party deploys the enchanted vials provided by the researcher and successfully capture the requisite components from both the wisps and sentient plant life. Returning to the Map House, Esklindrar is quite pleased with the necrotic motes they brought, but insists that what they brought him is not the expected shambling mound and instead is something more concerning. He demands the Knights keep it with them and deliver it to a colleague in Neverwinter, an arcane botanist named Liu, who will know more about it. Inquiring about ways to travel to Neverwinter expediently, Esklindrar points them to Moongleam Tower in Everlund, where the Harper's teleportation circle is a poorly kept secret.   As promised, Esklindrar offers to provide the party research on interests that pertain to each of them. Pax inquires about a legendary blade, Dorinvaar, while Aethuriel requests the wherabouts of any unaccounted for Helmite artifacts and Tristain seeks to learn more about Draxhar, the demon Arkmenos referenced. The sage offers to have the information ready for them shortly and unceremoniously departs to research their requests.   With their work seemingly concluded in Silverymoon, the Knights make preparations to travel south to Everlund and eventually Neverwinter to learn more of the gith Folio Halfrun's operations.
