Prominent Figures
JanussiHuman (she/her). Keeper of Tomes, the highest-ranking member of the Avowed and governor of Candlekeep who fills the other scholarly positions of leadership. Janussi is a devout follower of Deneir. Bookwrym
Dragonborn, green (he/him). Though his real name is Sokda Valanaster, Bookwrym takes pride and joy in the nickname ascribed to him from a young age. Bookwrym serves as First Reader and is predominantly responsible for expanding the literary resources and breadth of knowledge at Candlekeep. He spends much of his time acquiring unique tomes and scrolls and being the first to study the gifts brought by new seekers.
Great Readers
A'lai AivenmoreHuman (she/her). A devout follower of Oghma whose primary expertise is divinity, specifically related to the nature of the divine itself. Alkrist
Dragonborn, bronze (he/him). Alkrist specializes in military strategy theory, the politics of battle, and the significant battles of Toril's past. Daral Yashenti
Human (he/him). A poet as well as a scholar, Daral's specialties are the research, commentary, and preservation of art, particular music, poetry, and literature. Fheminor Scrivenbark
Halfling (he/him). Fheminor specializies in cultural studies and anthropology with an expertise in history, folklore, and Toril cultures throughout history. Kazryn Nyanatani
Human (she/her). Kazryn specializes in research as it relates to navigation of both the natural world and the celestial planes. Sylvira Savikas
Tiefling (she/her). Having dedicated herself to researching the nature of tieflings, their origins, and further educating society to dispel the misplaced fears or misconceptions about them, she eventually became a Great Reader who specialzies in all aspects of the fiendish history, lore, and Great Wheel cosmology as a whole. Human (he/him). Teles has dedicated his life to the study of enchantments, magical artifacts, curses, and the Weave itself as a meta-physical component of reality. V'ziir-Ag
Githzerai (he/him). V'ziir-Ag's experitize is broadly in all things deemed 'unnatural' by denizens of the material plane, specializing specifically in aberrations, the undead, and the Far Realms.
Other Leaders
Benedora StoneforgeDwarf (she/her). A devout disciple of Milil, Benedora is the current Chanter who leads the small, devoted group of Avowed who maintain Endless Chant. Kalan Strongbranch
Human (she/her). The current Gatewarden, Kalan maintains security at the front eastern gates through which all visitors pass through and maintains the rotation of Keepers of the Emerald Door.
Avowed Adjutants
Fembris LarlancerHuman (he/him). An 18-year-old scribe with a bright smile, a can-do attitude, and an obnoxious need to impress others. Sprig Summerfoot
Halfing (she/her). A halfling of 23 years, Sprig has perpetually ink-stained fingers, always keeps a bag of cookies in her robe pocket, and has an excellent memory for recipes. Parmak
Human (he/him). Even when serving as a guide, Parmak is constantly reading, often walking into things. Garlyth Graystock
Dwarf (he/him). Garlyth prides himself on knowing the needs and wants of those he guides before they do, but comes off as dismissive when he cuts them off mid-sentence regularly. Nax Olossis
Dragonborn, brass (they/them). A talkative scribe, Nax enjoys learning about the learning of others and is happy to serve as a guide instead of in other more academic ventures in the Great Library. Vooshadi Moonriver
Moon Elf (she/her). At 87-years-old, Vooshadi is quite conteplative and stoic. She is difficult to anger, but does not mince words. Irony
Tiefling (she/her). At only 15, Irony already aspires to one day be Keeper of Tomes. A dutiful follower of all rules and upstanding young member of the community.
Seekers & Residents
Little OneOgre (he/him). A frequent guest of the Hearth's taproom, Little One can often be found reading a book in a corner by himself, though many of the Avowed go out of their way to greet him or discuss their latest readings with him. He wears a headband of intellect and solemnly shares the story of how he acquired with those who inquire. Lorekeeper Kei Tigersteel
Human (he/him). Caretaker of the Temple of Oghma, Lorekeeper Kei is not officially an Avowed, but one of a select few allowed to enter the library unattended. Feldmar Bisset III
Human (he/him). An acolyte of Gond as well as a hobbyist in horticulture, Feldmar and his family maintain the Erudite Outfitters & Clothiers where seekers and members of the Avowed can purchase new robes or have their wardrobes repaired. Feldmar also keeps a small greenhouse where he nurtures silkworms to harvest their cocoons for silk. Khe'ril Hammerbind
Dwarf (he/him). Khe'ril managges the blacksmith's workshop adjoined to Candlekeep's stables. His work is almost exclusively that of replacing and repairing shoes for the variety of mounts found at the library, along with simple tools or pieces of equipment for seekers and members of the Avowed. Gnome (he/him). Barkeep and managers of the Hearth. Orros arrived at Candlekeep with dreams of joining the Avowed, but quickly decided he wasn't up for all of the quiet research and reading, much preferring to learn and share ideas in loud discussions. While the Hearth and House of Rest are maintained by Candlekeep as a whole, he is more than happy to run and operate his tavern room with a great degree of freedom without having to worry about the expenses or maintenance. Water genasi (she/her). Similar to the Hearth, the House of Rest is techincally owned by Candlekeep's leadership, but its oversight and daily operations are handled by Parch, who is essentially the propreitor of the inn. She is easygoing, happy to help, and curious. Not a scholar herself, she enjoys hearing about whatever it is her guests are passionate about in their work at Candlekeep. Cordeyr
Half-elf (he/him). Cordeyr manages the schedules and reservations of studyhalls in the Pillars of Pedagogy. He is patient and precise and expects others to be as detail-oriented as himself.
