Session 28 - The High Moor Report in Forgotten Realms | World Anvil

Session 28 - The High Moor

General Summary

The group finally comes out of the new hilly area to see the High Moor. It's a scrubland, with patches of sand desert, that is teeming with small flora and fauna. As they look out into the land, they do see a building and an obelisk off in the distance. After some discussion, they decide to head to the building.

As they trek across the land, they sense some magic under a hill. Digging it up, they find some skeletons. The skeletal structure looks like taller gnomes, perhaps four feet tall. Zephyr is able to do an illusion around it making it look like that but at the moment, it's a guess. They also find metal nails. With the first skeleton, they find a rod, about nine inches long, capped in copper with a greenish liquid in it that radiates magic. It holds magic and the casters realize they could call upon it for spells instead of their own reservoirs. They sense more magic further down so keep digging. They decide to camp for the night so they can uncover more, so set up camp nearby.

They end up finding more skeletons of these creatures, along with more nails, which turn out to be metal tools. The metal had survived and in the second batch, the wooden handles survived as well. They had another rod with copper ends and green liquid magic in it and some other metal pieces that the group weren't sure they were. They did think these had only died in the past year or so and wonder what caused it.  They rest for the night.

They go to the tower and see some cambions trying to get into the tower. The cambions are so focused on it that they didn't notice the group. The group decides to attack. They come up with a plan, starting with dimension dooring up there, invisibly, and attacking. They do so.

One of the cambions manages to react enough that he's tougher but within twenty seconds all of them are down. They pick one cambion and heal him to ask him questions. Turns out this one didn't like the others, although as they spoke more, none of them seemed to like each other. They had a mission to fulfil or go back to the abyss, and this was better than the abyss. Other than the name, Captain Montegue, and finding out what is in this tower, though, they don't know much.  They might recognize some parts, though, and want to go with the group.

The group still discusses it.

GM Notes

  • It has been too long, so this write up is quick.
  • The cambion's were supposed to be more difficult but they stuck to the plan of attacking.
    • A few of the cambion's did okay in a counter attack.
    • The magus managed to activate just enough to be tough to hit but with no help, couldn't do much.
    • The bard and priest of the cambions were taken out before they could even do anything!
  • The do revive the bard to ask more questions.
    • The bard reveals they the group was sent to look at this tower.
    • They are here to recover things stolen from them by the Netherese.
    • The bard indicates that it wasn't that long ago to them, even though it was over a millenia ago in the Realms.
    • That's why I don't like long lived races.
  • If they hadn't attacked and let the group prepare, it would have been that much harder.
