History

In the 1400's Sembia recovering from a Civil War had been fully consolidated into the Netheres Empire of magic. Underneath their rule, the once proud nation of Sembia served as an economic hub for the dark haired humans and infernal creatures that ruled with them. This war provided a cloud of darkness that would cover Sembia for most of the next century. However, in 1484 DR, the darkness started to split and Sembia would regain its independence in 1487 DR.    For the next decade, Sembia under the welathiest merchant, Arminious Diedrich, Sembia would reform its economic base of power. However, having lost lands to Cormyr and lands in the Dalelands, Sembia under their Overmaster Arminious Diedrich started to form an army to reclaim some lands which they believed they had rightful claims on. Sembia's desire for land expansion took form in the War of Thunder Peaks. While it is stilled referred to as a war, it was more a brief skirmish with the Kingdom of Cormyr. The war itself did not last long, the superior technology of Cormyr made the casualties on the Sembia side rather high and they had to retreat. However, the people on Sembia would not accept such a defeat without a scapegoat. The Overmaster at the time Korbinian Tyreses (Overmaster's were elected every seven years) was overthrown in a coup by a particular cutthroat merchant known as Telfor "the Fox of Selgaunt". Through various deals Telfor, not only claimed the title of overmaster promising great riches but also secured it for more than just a seven year time making his rule as of right now indefinite.    During the early 1510's DR, Telfor and Sembia would invest heavily into the rather new idea in the dragon coast of privateering. They would hire various pirates and cults which tended to find their way to the riches of the city in exchange for securing trade routes, partners and wealth in ways that were not also diplomatically favored under the guise of pirates. While most of these "pirates" were actually general sailors in the military and only a few were cult or pirates, their disregard for a fair engagement has earned them their names.     During the year of 1530, Telfor would extend his hand the growing Turlagh Empire and their new Empress Alara. He offered a formal trade agreement and an influx of wealth in exchange for protection against Cormyr and for her help in storming Myth Drannor to ensure the Nethril were defeated once and for all. Alara would agree sending an elite force from the army to Sembia who would storm the castle and see if they could any artifacts of the lich's Larloch and the Shadow Lord Telamont.
