History

Most history before this setting is credit of the authors of the Cormyr source book and wiki.   The history of Cormyr starts after the Netherese were defeated in the 1470's. Stopping the shadow fell invasion.   By the end of the War with Sembia and an influx of various people retreating from the War of the Black rose happening on the Sword Coast near Waterdeep. Corymr and Readra found themselves rebuilding and recovering from a long war. This took a substantial toll on the queen Readra who would succumb to the stress at the young age of 46 in the year 1499 DR. With her death, it passed on to her son Borivik who had spent his time as a Marshall in Marsember where he was educated.   During the next couple decades, the Kingdom of Cormyr would be dealing with a reoccurring threat of the Cult of the Dragon under the Angel Moreal. With the war wizards in charge of dealing with the cult and much of the military being diverted there, a growing corrupting influence of the Zhentarim started to be felt as the Purple Dragons started going through cities looking to stamp out the corruption. By the year 1510 DR the Angel Moreal would be defeated in a valiant triumph by the war wizards, banishing him for the forseeable future.   In the year 1521 Dr, the kingdom would send volunteers to the free cities of Elversult, Pros and Illipur. They were reprimanded by the cities and the Republic of Turmish for not showing greater support while so close to a growing threat. However, Borivik remained vigilant in his promise for peace to the people of Corymr. This was viewed as a sign of weakness resulting in a resurrection in border clashes with Sembia early in the 16th century (officially known as the War of Thunder Peaks) until a nonagression pact was signed in the years following.

However, most nobles and wealthy merchants were privately educated causing a substantial disparity.   In Cormyr all mages are trained at one of the 4 main colleges The College of Celestite in Arabel focusing on the recitation of the past and rebirth of what was lost. The College of Apaitite in Marsember known for its creation and expression of new magical spells The college of Peridot in Suzail who focus on the artistic side of magic often being the favorite place for outsiders to visit Lastly the College of Rhondite in Proskur which focuses on the fundamentals of magic
