Grand Prince
Imperial title of the heir to the Iridium Throne. Under Imperial custom, the eldest child of an emperor becomes heir to the throne at the age of 12. An Imperial Edict is issued which actually confers the title of the heir's birthday, but the formal investiture ceremonies are normally delayed untilthe next Holiday after the birthday. It is extremely rare, but not unknown, for an emperor to withhold the title for a few years or never appoint one. A childless emperor formally designates a successor by granting that person the title grand prince (again, a rare event). If a grand price dies before ascending the throne, another is normally appointed as soon as possible. It is, of course, not required that an emperor be designated grand prince in order to take the throne.
For females, the proper style is Grand Princess.
