A Lovely Time in Lumencroft

The Setup

John receives a letter from Cassius mentioning how he has a lead on the Artisans at Lumencroft and is hoping to meet them there. John calls Gloria, who was in the middle of getting ready, reluctantly follows along. They get on the ride and head north west to Lumencroft. Through a thick mist, the ride reaches their destination much sooner than it should have.

The party rode past the squalid town of "East Harrow," and arrived to Lumencroft with happy and eager constables. They greeted the party and led them to an orientation so that the party doesn't accidentally break rules they weren't aware of.

Cassius

Cassius had been given a letter from a servant about how they are needed in Lumencroft as the rest of the party will also be there. It is believed that he has a lead on the Artisans there.

He then met with Edwin and Ellen Thomter, a strange set of twins who implied that Cassius' party members "won't be found here, but rather, 'there'," before disappearing abruptly.

On the road, Cassius had gone through a thick clump of mists and wound up in Lumencroft. Past the gates, the constables led Cassius to an orientation room to ensure he doesn't break any rules by accident.

Daniel and Larrel

For Daniel and Larrel

Daniel and Larrel wound up getting lost through a thick mist. They explored the town of East Harrow for a moment and noted iconic hooded statures of a forgotten savior for the town. After a scuffle with the locals, they fled to Lumencroft where the two of them went through the gates safely and got to an orientation room.

Exploring Lumencroft

Orientation begins. It showed reels of footage in the City of Lumencroft as Mayor Clarence Bertram detailed the key rules of the city: take part in events, let the authorities handle problems, and always stay civil. Nothing too hard, right?

Afterwards, the party went to a Joyden pastry shop and get ahold of neat snacks and asked curiously how this all happened. The real Lumencroft should have been destroyed. To Cassius' and Daniel's knowledge, Lumencroft should be ruins as the "mad mayor" had destroyed his own city in hopes of cleaning out Corderan influence. Clearly in the real world, that didn't work out. But here? Something is off for sure.

One thing that is curious, the letters sent to Cassius and John were not actually written by the two. Someone else gave them the letters to come to Lumencroft.

Gloria had mentioned maiming severely whoever did this and... it actually unnerved two patrons in particular. The group followed the two outside into an alley and, after some encouragement from Cassius and Daniel, they revealed themselves to be Actors who were told to set things up.

The group went to the Mournival tent where the Directors had a tent in the city. There, the group met with the Directors and got an explanation. Through the mists, the group discovered they were in a Demi-plane where dark powers, namely the Writers, setup up these fake stages to orchestrate torments on those they find interest in. The Actors are merely the "ensemble" that provide background for the environment the party is in. The Directors create these shows as reflections for the party and what is to come.

Mayor Bertram Clarence

Using Cassius' status as a noble, got a meeting in City Hall to meet with Mayor Bertram. Though, the group was led to a room where there was a massive portrait of the Mayor rather than his actual person. He spoke through a loudspeaker to the group in this meeting.

He mentioned how, after meeting with two Artisans, one with an addiction to narcotics, the Physician, and the other who laughed eerily at things, the Joyous, both had to have gotten power and influence somehow. It scared him when they visited the city and he wanted nothing to do with whatever these creeps did to obtain power and influence.

After the meeting, the party went off to meet with The Machine in the Labor District, as Gloria was curious what this Labor District had to offer.
