Introduction to the Dichotomy
A common trait one will find in Duovia very quickly is that certain places either have an uplifting and beautiful appearance while the others are dark and gloomy. These are the result of the positive and negative influences from a cosmic strife between the positive and negative planes long ago. This factor is a core staple to the setting and will impact character development for certain. To hopefully bring less confusion, this article will detail what typically happens under the influence of positive or negative influences.
As a general rule, throw out the assumption of good vs evil (but not entirely) with this influence. Not every creature that is born within their influenced land will be the epitome good or evil. All it does in a major way is influence the aesthetic and outlook of its inhabitants at most.
Negative Influence
The first sign of entering a negative-influenced land are commonly trees with twisted branches and bloated stumps. The grass has a subtle yellow hue and are slightly bent. Giant spiders, wolves, and bats are common animals within the forests. Sometimes the influence twists cute creatures such as deers to be menacing.
Those born within the negative influence, such as the Vuldraic, taken on deathly pale hues to their skin. They are often pessimistic, quiet, and seem to watch from a distance. Often times, negative aligned focus on themselves, often believing those in pain only have themselves to blame. In terms of worship, negative-aligned focus on surviving, or even battling, against evil deities.
Positive Influence
Beauty and majesty grace the lands influenced by positive energies. Rarely do plants struggle to blossom or wilt away. The common beasts that roam about these places are bears, deer, and crickets. Fearsome creatures born here are often stripped of their menacing features to be replaced with majesty or grace. Dark colorings are replaced with green and brown hues and dark, hunkering eyes become relaxed with hints of color around the pupil if there weren’t any.
Positive influenced societies, such as the Kyaldran, are humble and uplifting people. They are not afraid to approach the weak and weary to lift up their spirits. Loyal to the last man, positive types are known to form brotherhoods without trying at times. In worship, positive-aligned peoples praise their benevolent deities.
