Missing Dog in a Missing Temple Plot in Florenic Worlds | World Anvil

Missing Dog in a Missing Temple

I have done all I could to investigate into this Petton Dyrovius figure. The problem is that he has very few records within Renaki’s University. The most we know about him officially is that he has provided new insights and teachings that helped push our understanding of the planar worlds.

I’m always one to be skeptical of clients. Especially a powerful one such as Dyrovius. He wants us to find his spellcasting dog that went missing in an unknown temple. Quite frankly all of this sets both me and Remus uneasy. Stay watchful of whatever comes next. Even Cardinal Atticus doesn’t like him.

Exposition

While visiting Faunerro, Petton had hoped to showcase Spud to the Univeristy of Renaki about his abilities in teaching a dog how to utilize magic. During the trip, he took a detour to peruse a suspicious temple he found within the Astral Sea. While exploring it, Spud ran off, triggering the temple’s defenses. Spud was faster than the defenses getting triggered. Because Petton couldn’t reach out to Spud, as he suspects that the dog went into another plane of existence. The question is which one.

What makes things complicated for him is that Hearth’s cardinal, Julian Atticus, suspects Petton Dyrovius of being an anomaly. He has approval from Amelia Dundragon to crack down and investigate this stranger with the help of the Civil Guard.

Adventure

Meeting up with Petton

Cardinal Atticus’ Search

As the party heads out to meet with Petton, the Civil Guard stop them along the way.

As you walk along the streets, an avian and goliath stop you for a moment, “Hold, citizen,” the avian speaks up, “We are looking for a man named Petton Dyrovius. We are told he was last seen at Esterson Hall the day prior. To our understanding, you are part of the Guild Hall. We would like to know if you could help us find him.”

They explain that Cardinal Julian Atticus has her majesty’s approval to search for him. The Cardinal believes that Petton is not being honest about who he really is. Whether he has the blessing of the caels or even the Pontiff for this is unsure to the Civil Guard.

Should the party be honest, the goliath, Uthril, joins the party to see where Petton is. Aurdur, the avian, seeks out Cardinal Atticus.

If they are denied, Aurdur tries to follow them from the sky, reporting to Atticus should they enter a building he’s not familiar with.

Meeting Petton

Petton Dyrovius greets the party, letting them in. If the guard is present, he quickly puts them to sleep. Afterwards, he explains to the party “the truth,” of the situation.

I’m going with the safe assumption you have not heard of the Florenic Worlds. The premise is a simple one: There are more worlds out there than Faunerro. Not planar realms such as Haven and Inferna, but more material ones influenced by the planar realms. So do not be surprised if I bring you along to some strange sites.

Regardless, I have a few tedious things to pick up before we truly reach the temple. So please, do try to stay close. I wish I could explain every detail but…”

The door begins to pound, “This is the Civil Guard. We know you are in here, Professor Dyrovius! Open this door!”

Petton sighs, “Not everyone takes kindly to my line of work as you’d imagine. Would you kindly stall them until I am ready? The longer, the better!”

Should the party accept, he darts into the cellar. Civil Guard are there asking for Petton Dyrovius. Cardinal Atticus watches from the distance on horseback. Once the Cardinal’s patience ends, he orders the Guard to barge in and retrieve the wizard. The Cardinal has Detect Magic up and is ready to cast Dispel Magic if needed (Spell save DC 16, +8 to hit with spell attacks).

Once the Guard start advancing, Petton is quick to step forward, whipping a strange silver-blue fabric through the air, placing the party in a new environment.

Turnerford Castle

Depending on whether or not the party gave a good distraction depends on where they wind up, whether inside or outside the castle. Here, Petton goes to grab his arcane focus, a Staff of Power, for the journey. The magistrate, Percival Holm, doesn't take kindly to the guests but still treats them with utmost dignity. They both know full well that the "One in Yellow" will be very displeased.

Petton shrugs then takes the party to the Astral Sea.

Temple of Kithrali

Here, the party finds the remains of a Creator within a tomb, for Spud had been giving the poor thing company. As a thanks, the One in Yellow Wraps allows Spud back to Petton as a thanks. Petton also thanks the party for aiding him.
