Esterson Session 13

The Phantom in Kalgarim

General Summary

We all have monsters that follow us. Some real, some personal. Johan’s, however, is one where a tragedy had turned a person into a monster. I have coordinated with our secret informant and they have informed me that the Phantom is blessed by Alkaran in this personal quest for revenge.

Johan cannot do this alone. Never trust a Maledian to fight fair and I can only expect that this Phantom will fight viciously to get what he wants. Get to the southern parts in the Town of Halmenfield. I dread thinking this will only end where it all started.

Before Heading Out

In the morning, Festus introduced to the party a new blether servant within the Hall, Faust.

Sparring Fun

While Johan had a head start into the Province of Kalgarim, the party made preparations for encountering the Phantom. Namely sparring with the other. Maedhros had defeated the tank, Uthril. Darwin had defeated Altor.

Thomter Twins

Outside, you see the Thomter Twins dressed in Ardentian clothing rather than what they were before. Both of them hold a script to a play by a famous avian writer, Peeriok.

Ellen rolls her eyes, ”You know we look silly in these outfits!”

”I know! How else are we supposed to do this?” Edwin replies.

EL: ”Wasn’t it Peeriok who said, ‘The world is a stage and we are the actors’?”

ED: ”Well I want a different play, as do our actors and audience!”

EL: ”I wish the same. For now, we have to play our parts before that can happen.”

ED: ”We will do our part by assisting the stray trapped in there.”

EL: ”And they shall do their part by finding out how we were brought here.”

ED: “It’s a fair exchange if you ask me. I hope we get back home after the inevitable war.”

EL: "Wishful thinking there, brother. With our luck, we'll be right on time."

ED: "Or perhaps not at all if we are lucky and unlucky."

Within Kalgarim

Johan’s Preparations

Johan first went in to inspect the apothecary ruins. All was quiet and left as it once was. However, he wasn’t the only one who had interest. Inspecting the scenery, there was a young Civil Guardsman sitting under a tree. Inquisitor Captain Arnsley Dorian was also hiding on the sidelines behind a bush as he was keen to investigate the Infernal dealing the Phantom had done.

Seeing no signs of the Phantom himself, Johan ran to caution his wife and family members. However, there was someone sitting atop a roof. She revealed herself to be the secretive informant who had been watching over his family when word got out to her that the Phantom was a menace and that Johan would be stepping in.

The informant had done some investigation for Johan’s seek, revealing that the Phantom of Kalgarim was really Denzel Burklen. Of all the guards who perished in the chemical blast, they had their ceremonies but Denzel was not buried.

Inside inspecting his family, a cael named Gallan had been tasked with watching over them. Sneaking by, Johan woke up his wife, insisting they get out of the area and run for Esterson Hall if needs be. Johan also snuck a quick fart by his sister’s face…

Showdown in Kalgarim

The party arrives in Halmenfield. There, they find the familiar lowlifes from Glimmer Coast. The lowlifes were spared by one Darkway Thief who had them act as her own informants. They directed the party to the southern parts where the area of interest is.

With Johan back at the apothecary ruins, the young guardsman still sat there under the shade of a nearby tree. After a long wait, the boy then called out to the sidelines, wondering where the “person he was supposed to meet” was. A familiar, menacing voice from the Masquerade insisted that “he” would come.

Johan then dismissed the boy, hoping to get him out of the fighting. The Phantom, Denzel, disappointed that Johan wouldn’t “entertain” following the boy, then improvised a new approach. The Phantom insisted that the boy was a reflection before everything happened. He insisted that his deformity had turned him into the town’s monstrosity as no one could recognize his disfigured and burned facial features.

After more back and forth, the party eventually arrived. They stood back and watched as Johan and the Phantom battled it out for a bit until Johan had been knocked down. Altor intervened, reviving Johan and staring the Phantom down.

After receiving a calling from Silris, she insisted that no one had to die and redemption is to always be an option which Darwin pursued for Denzel’s sake. By the end, they coordinated with the spectating Inquisitor to take Denzel and ensure that he could have solace and even try discerning if the enchanter of Denzel’s mask could be traced.

Back Home in Esterson Hall

The Secret Informant arrives to Esterson Hall and reveals herself to be Rosanna, another Savvy Stray member. As the party rejoiced and drank, there was an interesting observation about Skelk. On his backside, there were two little nubs as if he would soon be growing wings. This little vician would soon be growing bigger…
