Curse of Strahd Session 2
General Summary
Into the quiet household, the party discovered that within the first two floors, it appeared clean and tidy. When they reached the third floors and attic, dust and cobwebs were prevalent. On the third floor, where they were told by the children outside, that there was a crying child. Clovis found the lump within the crib, only to find nothing within the wraps.
The party discovered that the house belonged to Gustav and Elisabeth Durst. Cultists who admired the vampire Strahd, they were disappointed by the Dreadlord of the land that he looked down upon them. Regardless, the cult went on practicing their morbid practices and performing even darker sacrifices. Gustav had an affair with the nursemaid, where the party would find the nursemaid’s spirit haunting the suite and finding her remains within a trunk in the attic. They eventually found the remains of Rose and Thorn’s remains in their rooms, neglected by their evil parents to be starved away.
The party then found their way into the basement. Earthy corridors where they rested the remains of Rose and Thorn. They went on to discover the chanting of “he is the ancient, he is the land,” as they delved deeper until they found a slightly sunken room where an octagonal dais rose out in the center with a bloodstained altar. With Finral striking the mound of refuse, it angered the apparitions of the former cultists to call upon it to slay the intruders!
After a tough fight and outwitting the slow, lumbering mound, the party defeated Lorghoth, the Decayer. The party then escaped the enraged household as fireplaces fumed poisonous smoke and doors transformed into scything blades. The party makes it out alive as the house falls deathly silent.
