A Recluse in Tillersdale

Exposition

When the Strays disbanded, Bremigan went straight back home in Kalgarim. He currently lives a comfortable life with his mother, dabbling in nerdy hobbies. He loves it since he doesn’t have to deal with the insecurity of failing those he protects. With recent developments, he plans on attending an upcoming convention within the City of Anvarnem.

However, rumors of a roden horde having occupied the nearby village of Appleloft send stouts fleeing north or east for safety. In truth, the Varsnik Pack didn’t conquer the village, they had the help of a drow to infiltrate and turn the leadership to favor them instead. What was supposed to be a partnership between the stouts and roden slowly turns into a trouble of dominance over the village.

Elema and Varsnik

Elema is an inferiin who knew she wasn’t welcome by her own kindred for her “lesser” ideals. She couldn’t get anywhere fruitful or meaningful because of it. So she ran off, hoping to use her talents elsewhere. She had tried working with the aetheriin but they didn’t trust her without merit. She tried the stouts but they were too stubborn without her having merit. She turned to Varsnik, a reckless roden pack master who is eager to prove himself as a leader, believing that great leaders are great conquerors. Elema hoped to work around that factor.

The two of them then turned to Appleloft, a simple farming village within the valley. Elema coordinated with Mayor Cassidy and Varsnik to come together as partners instead of rivals. Both agreed it was fair that a small tribute of food would help tone down the tensions, which it did. However, the lack of fighting has made Varsnik impatient, wanting to instead conquer. Because the Appleloft is considered “conquered” by the roden there, Varsnik is eager to “conquer” more areas, Tillersdale being next.

Adventure at Hand

Tillersdale

While heading to Tillersdale, the party notices that wagons are making their way away from the town. About four wagons go by full of people with a lot of of their belongings. They’re hoping to get away from the town before the roden do anything. Even along the way, they see roden along the roads, watching and scampering off in the distance.

Should the party approach these roden, they form into a group, unsure of the party’s intentions.

Meeting Bremigan, he is unaware of the rumors that a roden pack plan on going after Tillersdale, or even the trouble at Appleloft. His basement abode is full of nerdy trinkets and portraits of fictional icons from stories. He is insistent on attending the Anvarnem Convention within the next week as he’s packing up his things.

Appleloft

It’s a strange sight coming to Appleloft. Roden roam the sunny streets openly without fret and as do the stouts going alongside as well. It quickly becomes apparent when you see a roden and stout couple stay watchful of the other as they pass by. So clearly, not all is as sweet as molasses around these parts.

Encounters

Curious Roden. A roden gestures to a few of his fellow kind to follow him to the chapel, as he wants to show the others the lovely experience of being in the presence of a cael. They all become entranced by the cael there, feeling wholesome and wanting to cherish things.

Meeting Varsnik

Varsnik is only held in line by Elema. He craves for the battle he never has but the reasoning of his inferiin advisor makes it all the more worthwhile to try and be more tame about his dealings with others. For to agitate the guard would mean a trained army would come for him.

Scripts

Bremigan’s Horrors

Not after Oleerkai, not after Copperpeak, and especially Alkeg. I promised too many people I would be there to protect them only to find them hurt or… worse… mind you… In Alkeg is where it began. I promised them that I would fight and keep my fellow stouts safe. That I would be there to keep those roden cretins back! Oh caels grant them rest!

I was late to help them. By the time I had arrived from doing errands, I came just in time to see the last of the fires burn out. The remains of the fighting… I promised the Strakvirs that they could put their faith in me to be there for them. When I saw their home, their remains, I failed them. In my failure they were butchered like animals by those vermin.

At Oleerkai, the avians trusted us to keep them safe from orcs. Too many died and suffered. At Copperpeak, we had underestimated the enemy, causing so many people to lose their homes to a few dragons.

That’s why I’m happy here at home. I’ve given up on the fighting life. I’m tired of failing too many people who put so much trust in me.
