Mordecai, the God of the Nightlife
Overview
Mordecai represents good times, revelry, hedonism, and exciting activities associated with the night time. Opinions vary as to whether his influence is a positive or negative one upon humanity. He is one of the newer known Gods, and is husband to the God of Order, Fia. Their marriage represents the balance of order and chaos, work and play. Rumours say that he resides in mortal form within Canto, the city he helped revolutionize.Influence
Many worship Mordecai in their own small way. It is said that all one needs to do in order to praise him is to be merry and free, or wilfully intoxicated in some form. Every drinking establishment may be a church to Mordecai at that time, if one within it wishes it to be. While he is a popular God for those who prioritise their base desires over productivity, most of the populace do not worship Mordecai alone. It is more common for one to revere him and his wife, Fia the God of Order, and the balance they represent. Particularly zealous followers may dedicate their lives to hedonism, putting pleasure and joy above all, and will oppose vehemently any that attempt to limit their ability to have a good time. Some have taken to living in communes where they devote their lives to the spirit of the nightlife.History
Before his deification, Mordecai Lerran was a common elven man living in the city of Canto, and owner of a brothel named the Waking Dream, situated in the Night District. When the council attempted to thwart the 'unsavoury' businesses operating in the Night District, he resisted the violence that lawbringers brought upon his establishment, and encouraged others to do the same. This resistance grew to become what would later be known as the Sunset Revolution, wherein not only did those in the Night District resist oppression, but also managed to take over the rest of the city. Mordecai became the new ruler of the city after the council fled to more respectable pastures. The cause of his death is unknown, as none present were sober enough to make a reliable account. It did little to interrupt his preferred activities however, as after his descension, reports indicate that he has continued to reside in Canto in the form of a mortal avatar, although he can be quite difficult to locate.Marriage to the God of Order
According to witnesses, Fia the God of Order made a visit to Canto, in order to locate Foss the God of Trickery, who had taken a liking to the city. She found the wild nature of the city not to her liking, as it was an antithesis of her own ideology. Mordecai, a mortal at the time, reportedly met with her and persuaded her not to put her efforts into destroying the city as it was, although it still displeased her. It is uncertain how the two came to be wed following this. Stories say that she continued to find excuses to visit the city, such as to monitor its activities, and would continue to meet Mordecai each time. Some say that he managed to woo her and the two fell in love, others say that she simply wanted to be close to him to keep him in line. Their marriage is seen by most as a positive one for humanity, as it represents that work can be tempered with play, and vice versa. Those who worship both gods aspire to find balance in their lives in regards to order and frivolity.
