Pigs
Origins
In our world, not too many of the ancient animal species that survived, and many of those that did, are now heavily changed and different from what they once were. But still, there are some that stayed surprisingly the same. One of these are pigs. Of course, when we say they stayed unchanged, we mean mainly their appearance and genetic characteristics, but their place in our world is very different today.
Though even in the ancient times they were considered to be one of the more intelligent species they were, unsurprisingly, still subjected to human cruelty and were more often than not bred for food. But don’t think that this kind of relationship was one sided, no, not at all. While pigs were hardly ever in charge of everything, they were absolutely 100% capable of killing and devouring humans as well. Sure, normally they wouldn’t do that, but there were definitely reported cases of murderers feeding their victims to pigs. Allegedly. It might be things like this why today people of T@Ö#Å3 seem to be drawn to pigs, just as they tend to be drawn to any weird gory shit.
Pigs Today
But let’s not get too carried away. Despite the unappealing reputation that pigs seemed to have in ancient times, they are indeed very intelligent and make great companions to people. Of course, today we live in a more civilized world where no one would dream of eating a pig, and they are treated more or less as the T@Ö#Å3 counterpart to Å+*4~ dogs - another species that to this day remains similar to their ancient ancestors, and a great companion to people. Similar to dogs, you will find different breeds of pigs that people keep for different purposes. People in towns might keep cute little teacup pigs as house pets, while people living outside of town and near Wasteland may keep them as protection and companions in seeking out certain natural resources useful to moles. One such thing are earth apples, a type of a T@Ö#Å3 potato that grows out in the wilderness and can most easily be found with the help of pigs. They can sniff them out and dig them up better than moles alone ever could. They even come in handy for digging up many of the ancient artifacts that would have otherwise been lost and unobtainable to moles. Another reason people may keep pigs, often overlapping with the other ones we mentioned, is to start their own pig metal band. A strange metal subgenre popular in this part of the world. In addition to all this, they can be trained to help people out with all sorts of tasks in or around the house.
Care and Benefits of owning a pig
Maybe the reason why pigs became so popular as pets in T@Ö#Å3 is that they are a resilient species, easy to take care of. They will eat just about anything and are pretty happy living here in the desolate wastelands. they love to dig around in the dirt and mud, which has gained them a reputation of being dirty, but that is more of a misconception. in fact it’s exactly the opposite, pigs actually like to roll around in dirt and mud as a way to protect themselves from parasites, as well as from the heat. You see heat in most parts of T@Ö#Å3 can be quite insane, and it’s the layer of mud that keeps this heat away from the pig’s body. Of course, you wouldn’t let a muddy pig into your house, but then again, they won’t need to cover themselves with mud to stay cool in an air conditioned house, so it all works out fine in the end.
All in all, pigs make for intelligent, social, affectionate, helpful and easy to take care of companions to people, and as such it’s no wonder that their popularity as a house pet only grew after people returned to the surface. Today, they are considered to be one of the top 3 most popular pets to own - they’re right up there with catbunnies and dogs.
