Painted Silk

You know by now that Fairy Gardens are the source of some of the best quality and most beautiful products, resources and materials. Unsurprisingly, silk is one of those. Silk is almost exclusively produced by the silk moth fairies, many of whom live in T@Ö#Å3, but some of them came to Fairy Gardens. It’s true that T@Ö#Å3 produces more silk, but it’s not of as high quality as the one produced here, in Fairy Gardens.

How is silk made?

Yes, we all know how honey is made, but don’t worry, no such weird thing is happening with silk. Silk is made of silkmoth plants, the one that little silk moths grow on. No wonder silk moth fairies are especially fond of them. They care for them all year and give them all the TLC they can, but as we know, these butterflies and moths don’t survive the rainy season. Once those are gone, a fine silky thread can be made of the stems left behind, much like with linen for example. Except, you know, much better.

Silk moth fairies spend much of the rainy season and the next year producing this fine silk and the Fairy Gardens one is made exclusively by hand. Once the silk fabric is made, it’s ready to be sold, but here in Fairy Gardens the silk moth fairies go an extra mile to make this fabric really special.

What makes it so special?

Just the fact that this silk is made by fairies and all the extra care that goes into its production is enough to make silk a special and valuable fabric. But, that’s not all. Here in Fairy Gardens, the silk moth fairies like to paint the fabric. They hand paint it with different colors, patterns, or elaborate paintings depicting scenes from nature or Glitter Bible.

Needless to say, this fabric may take months and months to make, and you better preorder yours before the next silk moth season starts if you want to get it by the next year. This fabric isn’t used for just any kind of clothing, it’s mainly used for fancy formal gowns, wedding dresses and high end accessories, such as scarves, or even as art pieces used as wall hangings in houses of the richest people of our world. Much like handcrafted books and fancy fruit that we already talked about, this silk is one of those items most moles will never have a chance to see in real life. They will only admire celebrities wearing them in photos from fancy events.
