Midsummer Festivals

Summer is everyone’s favorite season. It’s the time of a summer holiday for the school kids, and is everyone's favorite month to take time off and go on a vacation. It’s a time to go out, celebrate, have fun and relax. As such, it’s no surprise that the most festivals and celebrations occur during this month. Of course, each month starts with a Lanternfest, and so does this one, but larger cities are known to stretch out this usually 4 day event to a full week, full of all sorts of events such as concerts, plays and art exhibits.

Timeline of the event

As already said, these festivals happen in the Misummer month - the 6th month of the year. They start with the usual Lanternfest, that is this time focused more on music, art and culture. Lanternfests are celebrated in nearly every settlement of our world and last 4 days, but these summer festivals are different. In larger cities this Lanternfest is pretty much replaced by a summer festival that lasts all week, and ends with the International Musicfest. In the region hosting the current year’s International Musicfest, this whole week will be focused more on the activities related to this event, but other regions will celebrate in their own ways.

What happens here?

These festivals happen only in the capitals of each region and are heavily advertised to bring in as many tourists as possible. They separate themselves from the regular Lanternfests and have their own unique names that make it immediately clear which town’s festival you’re talking about.

Although these festivals are trying to distinguish themselves from each other and each offer the best, most unique and diverse entertainment, they all follow the same theme of art and culture. You’ll see a lot of concerts, theater plays, art exhibits, all happening outside in parks and public venues. Here you’ll more often than not see the more obscure and artsy performances rather than popular or mainstream ones. These festivals pride themselves on representing more niche and fancy forms of art and celebrate the different cultures of the world.

With all these events inviting you to spend your day outside you’ll sooner or later get hungry and you can count on these festivals to have good food for offer as well. You see, food offers just as much creativity and culture as music, theater or art, and these festivals make a point to show this off as well. It’s a little bit like a second Food Lanternfest.

These festivals also have a lot to offer to children. There are all sorts of shows and performances aimed at children, as well as various creative workshops relating to many activities such as dancing, singing, arts and crafts. The parents can leave their children here to have fun, while they attend some of the more grown up performances and exhibitions that children would find boring. The week ends with a big International Musicfest viewing party, so even the people who can’t attend the event itself live can get the fun experience of it.

Importance of the event

These events are considered to be some of the biggest creative and cultural events that happen in our world. They aren’t only important to bring attention to more artsy and cultural performances that don’t get a lot of attention in the mainstream, but also to bring in tourists. Each year the towns are almost competing in who will organize a bigger and better festival with more events, more culture and more fun. It’s all to bring in more tourists, and with them, more money. But the truth is, the region that will host the current year’s International Musicfest will probably win here. No matter though, each festival offers something for everyone and guarantees good fun for the visitors and good profit for the organizers.
