Freebooter

A freebooter is a criminal that specializes in holding up merchant caravans, vessels or travelers moving between settlements. In contrast to criminals who work in settlements such as towns or cities, freebooters work primarily along the roadways - and even waterways - across Fiven.
Most freebooters work in groups - called a 'crew' - of five to nine individuals, with each member of the crew being a specialist in one skill or another the freebooter crew requires. If left unchecked, a freebooter crew can cause serious damage to the trade for a given area.
If local law enforcement is unable to disband or catch a particular freebooter crew, a writ is created with the Nighthunter Union to track down the problem freebooter crew and deal with them.
