Session 59: Wanted

General Summary

Last Days of Freedom

7th of Spirende 22nd year of the Second Era   When The Regulators returned to Anexa they were informed that the plan to integrate them into the prison was moving forward, and they would need to be in a tavern called The Jade Bear by noon in three days.   While Zuko was recovering from his encounter with Ira the rest of the crew proceeded to the local temple of Udal(person:109cf4b6-ccbf-4472-abfb-3236bcc3dcf0) to see what the scribe had learned of the truth behind @[Love like a rock.  The Scribe had in fact narrowed down the location of the city in the story to the wilderness north of the northern most city in Western Duram Province  The Fae mentioned in the story was an Arch Fae commonly called Firo Islewink. The deal was that the king would use the Stone Crown and the army it came with to defeat  the city-state's many attackers, and when the city was safe, he would give up the crown. Based on the fate of the city it is clear the king did not hold up his end of the deal. Echo recognized the name of the Arch Fae. She informed the party Firo is the embodiment of the fae stereotype of a trickster but also known to be extremely fair. They also have a reputation for being preoccupied with human power structures, and possibly being disgusted by them.   Zuko eventually came to and was told by Kaylee that  he was on the mend, but the after effects of the potion were not yet gone. He would need to keep his anger and aggression in check, or his life could in danger again.

The Jade Bear

10th of Spirende 22nd year of the Second Era   Several days later The Regulators found their way to an Orcish eatery in Casham Frielos Province  known as The Jade Bear. While enjoying one of their last decent meals for some time, they filled Echo in on the reasons for this mission; The Jarl Rupert Wasser and his original plans for peaceful succession (see: Session 20: On Matters of Death), How Orcus under the orders of Mantus  helped Emperor Valem Ekström come to power by getting his sister Alexandra Nordheim put  (See: Session 16/17: Letzte Brücke ), and how the emperor tried to have the Jarl killed before Orcus and Valem ceased to be allies (See: Session 30: Murder is Served and (Session 31: Treason ).

Welcome To Broken Shelf

When noon arrived, a group of Cerulean Guards burst into the tavern, called them by name and announced they were under arrest while subtly signalling that it was part of the plan. They were brought outside where their possessions were taken from them and sorted between what was going to the prison with them and what was being smuggled to them later.   They were put in a barred cart and driven to the prison. The Earrenian Imperial Vanguard soldiers at the prison were confused about their arrival but when the Cerulean Guards gave the soldiers a letter from the Jarl of Frielos saying they are important prisoners that would have been held at a garrison if the garrisons had not been abandoned, the commander of the prison eventually relented and allowed them to be processed in.   While one of the prison guards went through their personal effects, The Regulators were asked to disclose any magic abilities. Malcolm in an act of defiance attacked the guard and cast Gravedigger. Though it failed, he was immediately put in anti-magic cuffs. Meara was told her magic couldn't be stopped by the cuffs, so if she was caught using it in the prison she would be killed on sight.   As they were brought into the prison proper, Echo noted one of the head guards looking at Meara in a strange way. Broken Shelf Prison beyond the gate house was a large opening in a mesa with alcoves dotting the walls where clusters of 6 person cells were held. They were brought to their cluster, and warned to be in their cells by sundown every night. There they met Barfouth Warhand, a former commander second class from the Anexa Garrison. Warhand said he recognized Malcolm from when he came to the garrison to trade notes on firearms with quartermaster Anton Vignes who had since died in a black powder accident. In spite of this small connection, Warhand said he knew they weren't part of the Vanguard and thus he didn't trust them. He warned them that if they gave his fellow soldiers any more trouble than they were already dealing with he would kill them himself.

Guillermo Ferrer

Later at dinner, the crew observed a group from another part of the prison wander over and address a young skittish looking human man, discussing a shipment of some sort and implying the boy had some obligation as a lookout. Warhand stepped in to defend the boy and the leader of the group, Guillermo Ferrer made it clear that he didn't respect Warhand's authority anymore.   Malcolm and the crew stepped up and and joined Warhand, ready to fight to protect the boy.   To Be Continued...
