Session 14: Second Story Work

General Summary

59th of Varmalev 21 2E
The Regulators ascended from the mine at Red Valley two hours after defeating the adult Torch Spiders. The guards, including Mikkel Rise were taken aback at the size of the creature they had defeated. Malcolm informed Mikkel that the spiders appeared to have been shipped there on purpose, possibly by the Temple of the Black Star. Mikkel pointed out he was thankful in that case that the religion had been shut down in the empire.
Seeing the barrel of salvaged lantern fuel, Mikkel assured them that for what they had done, it was more than payed for, and they could take it without question. The party carted the dead spider into the center of town where it drew the attention of the citizens of Red Valley. Seeming to finally understand how much danger the town had been in, they collectively apologized to both the The Regulators, and the Cerulean Guard for they way they treated them. A great feast and celebration was started that lasted through the night, where the party engaged in rest and relaxation; including irresponsible drinking, and gratuitous nudity (this just including the activities of Zuko that night.) The following morning after Zuko pulled himself out of the well (with no help from Alaric) and found his discarded armor and clothing, the party packed up and returned to Palhas City

With nearly a week before they were supposed to meet with Sebastian Braun the party took care of resupplying and research. Meara purchased a leather lined breastplate and created health potions to distribute among the party. They returned to Al-Hai's Bazaar to pick up their enchanted tent, and Zuko spent much of the week at the local temple of Udal to get tutoring in Infernal. When the party returned to the Lucky Hawk Inn the first day, Vyncis Nynsor reminded Malcolm that if he leaves for an extended period of time without paying his tab he won't be able to keep one open for them in the future. Malcolm apologized and paid in advance for the next leg of their stay. Vyncis also informed him that some one came in looking for them, but seemed to be in too much of a hurry to explain why. The description given was undoubtedly that of Tidgrud. Malcolm left a piece of the Scroll of Message to be given to Tidgrud if he returned. Meanwhile, Malcolm out the word that he was looking for information on what he might have been doing in Palhas.
5th of Endhoste 21 2E
The party left early the following Runesday to reach Twin Locks and reached the The Grey Boar a few hours later. In a darkened room overlooking the street they found Sebastian sleep deprived and mentally exhausted. He explained that the small mansion across the street was the target of their heist. It was the home of Nikola Jović. A Baron of Twin Locks and a former member of The Nightshifters. He was originally responsible for protecting smuggling on the river into Palhas city. Recently, Nikola snagged an item that Miles Gray was having smuggled down the river and was now selling it as part of his own criminal operation. The heist, Sebastian explained, was less about retrieving the item, and more about revenge for Nikola's betrayal. They would be both stealing back the artifact, and planting an item stolen from Jarl Rupert Wasser. The idea being to both upset Nikola's buyers, and put him on the run from the authorities (if he is not arrested first.)
The party looked over the tools at their disposal including a bag of sleeping sand, a magic lock pick, and several Earring of Whisper. Sebastian gave them an idea of the security around the home including three guards, and pointed out that when Nikola leaves for the Freeflow Festival, his one servant will likely still be in the house. While watching the house the party noticed that Sebastian forgot to mention the dog wandering the yard in addition to the the two guards at the gate and the one paroling guard that walked the perimeter during his patrol of the town. Zuko recognized the dog as a few creature known as a Blink Dog.
A loose plan was beginning to form and Sebastian seemed to be relieved that he was no longer alone in completing this difficult task, so he slept for what was probably the first time in days.
