Fendrel was the younger of Ryker's two sons, though he was the only officially recognized one. His older brother Johnathon was a bastard and closely kept secret of Ryker's, taken from the mother and taught to work in the castle as a page. The brothers became close over the years. a bond that only an abusive parent can foster. When Ryker died, he left the kingdom in an unsteady state, with many thinking the Stormbringer line had lost its touch and that it was time for a change. When Fendrel became king he wanted to officially recognize Johnathon as his brother, but Johnathon refused. He knew Fendrel's grasp on the throne was tentative due to the state Ryker left things. Announcing someone that the nobles would view as competition to the throne would only further weaken that hold and invite rebellion before Fendrel had a chance to prove his worth. Fendrel knew he was right, so he agreed to keep the secret, on the condition that Johnathon took the bow Stormbringer and hide it away for if ever Fendrel's line failed. He or his offspring would then use the bow to announce themselves as rightful heirs and claim the throne. Johnathon was granted the title of Viscount, a respected noble title without being so high as to raise suspicion or jealousy and took the name Gallowmand. Fendrel worked hard to repair the damage his father had done, and the beginning of his reign was viewed favorably. Unfortunately his legacy became marred by the machinations of Nandrecrer, an ancient green dragon that had put into motion a plan to bring forth an incarnation of Tiamat. Sometime during 3A 1753 Fendrel was assassinated and replaced by a changling known as Haxial. Years went by without anyone knowing Fendrel was dead save for a select few, and many assumed his father's spite and ambition had finally shown itself. Since his death and the defeat of Nandrecrer, the truth of his death was made public by the new king, Dalmus Stormbringer, though some doubt its validity and see it as an attempt to cast away doubt in the royal lineage.
