Halfling

The Gan-Hin are stout, practical folk, focused on farming. Their nimbleness defies their girth, however. The River Folk are more mysterious and mischevious, the masters of trade up and down the Kuashon River Valley.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The River Folk originate from northern Liassang, where most of them live on or next to the Kuashon River. Since a good many of them are filled with wanderlust, travelers outside their native land are not too unusual.   The Gan-Hin population is distributed throughout the Marilsan subcontinent of northern Timir. Most of them never leave this land; the ones that do generally become adventurers out of necessity, and are the target of moderate stigma by their more sedentary relatives.

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

While there are clear biological similarities between the two branches of halflings, their presumed historical split happened before their current languages were recognizable. Both cultures prefer oral traditions over written works, which has probably accelerated their linguistic drift.   The River Folk seem to have adopted Dawn Trade wholeheartedly, although they have their own dialect of it, rich with slang. The language that is simply called "Halfling" belongs to the Gan-Hin and their Marilsan neighbors.
