In the world of Feodris, particularly in the Pillars of Peace era, life is considered sacred. The Profane nearly eradicated the populations of the continent before the Tower Band made their heroic stand. In the years since, life has been treated with a particular reverence. In addition to outlawing war, the Tower has demanded harsh, uncompromising punishments for those who kill.
Ways In Which The Sanctity of Life Affects the World
The sanctity of life provision of the Song of Harmony is foundational to the governance of the world and their declared goal of universal peace and repopulation.
Law Enforcement
Law enforcement, provided primarily by the Pillarguard, is trained specifically to crack down on those who would use lethal force in any context. Offensive spells are outlawed, weapons require registration and proper declaration upon any stop by the 'Guard, and punishment for murder or attempted murder under any circumstances is strictly and harshly (but not lethally) punished. Many dungeons left over from previous eras have been repurposed as prison complexes with absolutely brutal living conditions. Many escaped or deemed rehabilitated prisoners swear they would have preferred a merciful death, or even a tortuous one, to the hopeless suffering of being kept strictly alive in horrible squallor and nightmarish complexes such as the famous Obsidia's Island.
Medicine
The Tower Kingdom insists on providing healing services to all who need it. In cooperation with the Pillarsworn, the state-sponsored universal church, they employ thousands of clerics, druids, and bards from across the continent to cast healing spells on the sick and wounded. However, a corruption has begun to creep into the threads of abjuration magic that govern healing magic (see Magic, below).
