Waythe Item in Felstadt | World Anvil

Waythe

Waythe is a unique greatsword currently in the possession of Princess Kohinoor of the Singing Wood.   Waythe is a sentient sword who believes in freedom and allowing others to live as they see fit. He is protective of his friends. He is also courageous to the point of foolhardiness, and vocally urges bold action. He tends to come into conflict with an evil or a timid wielder.   Before Kohinoor, Waythe was in the possession of the Cloud Giant Ambassador Xuom. Kohi and her party members found Waythe in Xuom's rooms in the fortress of the Hill Giant Chief Nosnra. Waythe expressed his dissatisfaction with his current master to the group, complaining that the giant who had once been honorable had since grown cruel. When the party offered to find him a new master within the group, he agreed one the condition that his new wielder answer his riddle.
"Why does the caged bird sing?"
-Waythe
Kohinoor answered the riddle to his satisfaction when she offered "For the freedom to sing, and the joy of the song."   Waythe accompanied Kohinoor and her allies from that point forward until he was forcibly taken back by Xuom when the Giant noticed that the sword was in the possession of his enemies. He attempted to take it while they were battling Nosnra, but was thwarted by Dev Lightpaw and escaped. He later succeeded in summoning Waythe back when the party was otherwise engaged in fighting the dragons Hjarnar and Jokul at the tourney of Jarl Grugnor.   Lastly, Waythe returned to Kohi's hand for good when she and her party encountered Xuom in the fortress of King Snurre. After a short battle, Xuom finally surrendered on the condition that he and his allies be allowed to flee in peace.
