Red Morning Vehicle in Felstadt | World Anvil

Red Morning

The Red Morning is a brigantine captained by the famous pirate Ratcatcher Roger. This ship was used primarily as a capital ship accompanied by a small fleet of faster ships used to run down targets. Any treasure taken would be stored on the Red Morning until it was split among the crew. Its name comes from the ancient mariner’s rhyme:
“Red sky at night, sailors’ delight. Red sky at morning, sailors take warning.”
The entire crew of the Red Morning was killed on the Night of the Living Shadows when the ship made port in Felstadt. Ratcatcher Roger was the only survivor, after which point the ship stayed docked in Felstadt's port for several months.   After the threat of Dhor passed, the Red Morning was put to use once more with a new crew.

Articles of Agreement

  1. Every man has a vote in affairs of moment; has equal title to the fresh provisions, or strong liquors—at any time seized—and may use them at pleasure (unless a scarcity makes it necessary for the good of all), to vote a retrenchment.
  2. Every man who does his work is to be rewarded with his share of a prize. The Captain and Quartermaster are to receive two shares; the master, boatswain, and gunner, one-and-half; and other officers one-and-quarter.
  3. Every man is to keep their cutlass clean and fit for service.
  4. Any man guilty of deserting the ship or their quarters in battle shall be punished with death or marooning.
  5. Any man guilty defrauding the company to the value of a dollar in plate, jewels, or money shall be marooned. If one man should rob another, he who was robbed may content himself with slitting the ears and nose of him that was guilty, before he be set ashore where he is sure to encounter hardships.
  6. Lights and candles are to be put out at eight o’clock at night: if any of the crew, after that hour still remained inclined for drinking, they are to do it on the open deck without light.
  7. Any man who snaps his arms, smokes in the hold without a cap to his pipe, or carries a candle lighted without a lantern shall suffer forty lashes.
  8. There is to be no striking one another on board. Every man’s quarrels are to be ended on shore, at sword and bow. The Quartermaster, when the parties will not come to any reconciliation, will accompany them on shore with what assistance he thinks proper, and turn the disputants back to back, at so many paces distance; at the word of command, they must turn and fire immediately. If both miss, they shall come to their cutlasses, and then he who draws the first blood is declared victor.
  9. If any man shall lose a limb or become a cripple in his service, he shall have 800 pieces of gold from public stock as compensation, and for lesser hurts proportionally.
  10. Any man guilty of meddling with a woman without her consent shall suffer present death.
