Oil Crafting
The ancient winds whisper of special decoctions; powerful alchemical brews invented by the first huntsman to hunt the monstrous beasts who stalked the world. While many of these original recipes may have been lost to time, some have been salvaged from the first huntsman’s notes. His journals, filled with monster slaying strategies and countermeasures, detail the most brutal huntsmen tool: blade oils. Over time, these oils have evolved, becoming more specialized and potent.
Collecting components
After slaying monsters, it is common to salvage what is useful for later. These scarps, often called reagents, can be collected in a number of ways. These ways include:
- Checking fresh slaughter with a Survival (Wisdom) check
- Using alchemist’s supplies to complete a Nature (Intelligence) check to find botanic reagents during a long rest
- Completing an Animal Handling (Wisdom) check to harvest blood from beasts during downtime
After completing one of these tasks, you may increment your oil reagent pouch (listed below) towards culmination. Potent reagents required for specific oils come from certain creatures or plants and must be tracked separately. Merchants may also carry ingredients for your oils.
Oil Reagent Pouch (0/3)
10 sp. 10lbs
An oil reagent pouch stores the necessary alchemical ingredients for oil crafting. Basic harvested reagents increment this pouch at your DM’s discretion. When this pouch is full, you can use it to craft an oil listed on the crafting table.
Crafting an Oil
Crafting an oil requires at least three items: alchemist's supplies, a filled oil reagent pouch (3/3), and a potent reagent listed in the oil’s ingredients. Once all three have been obtained, you may spend one hour brewing your intended oil.
Using an Oil
As an action, you can apply an oil to a weapon, consuming the entire weapon oil. In doing so, you may coat one melee weapon or up to 5 pieces of ranged ammunition with the properties of that oil for 1 minute. Additionally, attempting to use weapon oil on a poisoned or oiled weapon will instead replace the poison or old oil with the newer application.
