Loxodon

The serene loxodon are among the largest of The Reaches' denizens; giants sporting corresponding strength and power. Their physical fortitude fits them naturally into the working class as guards and general laborers. The oldest loxodon can advance to nobles or monks.

Peace Seeking Giants

Standing well over six feet tall, sometimes reaching eight feet, loxodon are massive humanoids resembling elephants. Maintaining all of the strength and mass that their resemblance may suggest, they also often carry a thoughtful and joyful nature. They strive for the same kind of peace that the tortles find daily, spending years of their venerable lives meditating and dwelling on the lessons of the spirits and the hermits. While they have not reached the same spiritual peace, it is a constant quest for the loxodon. Nothing is as attractive or as idealistic to a loxodon as achieving the true peace of what they refer to as Nirvana. The pursuit of this state is, ultimately, a lifelong endeavor, and until the last years of their natural life extremely few loxodon ever reach this form of acceptance and peace.

The other denizens of Morishima tell ancient tales of the loxodon ruling the island through fear and strength over the other races. When the High Shogunate conquered the island, the khan fought valiantly, but was unable to stand against the winged assault. In the centuries since they have become amicable, peaceful souls, however occasionally the flame of rage and anger can take hold of a loxodon, and drive them into a rampage should the stars align. Your loxodon is very likely to be in pursuit of Nirvana, however it is possible a rage in their heart drives their conflict and perhaps influenced a past event.

Ever since the loxodon have been dethroned, they have been pushed to the bottom rung of society. Forced to be laborers and guards, they live under those they once ruled. In more recent years, the prejudice of the forefathers has washed away with the tides of time. Today, many loxodon are the esteemed brothers in arms of tabaxi and tortle alike.

Loxodon Names.

A loxodon's name includes subtle tones, produced in a loxodon's resonant nasal chambers, that indicate status, family connection, and community role. Since most non-loxodon can't distinguish these underlying tones, let alone produce them, loxodon often translate them into titles, such as Hierarch, Revered, Grandmother, Healer, or Saint, when interacting with other races.
