Grung

Through the murk and grime of Minamishiwa, many creatures will kill you, but not all of them are as deadly as they appear. Some are more deadly than they would lead you to believe. The adorable grung are a race of tribal, water dwelling, frog-like gremlins, mischievous and ever-plotting.

Amphibious Gremlins

The grung are a race of short, hobbled amphibious humanoids originating from Minamishiwa, an island of dark poisons and corrupting energies. Despite their treacherous homeland, their frog-like appearance has them seeming quite innocent. They move awkwardly on land, leaving them seemingly open to predators. Standing a meager 3 feet tall, with two rarely blinking spheres that serve as eyes, one can never tell what thoughts, if any, are moving through a grung’s head at any given moment. They can come in a wide array of colors, from bright red to dark blue.

The grung were the first inhabitants of their swampland home, developing a poisonous skin to protect themselves from the many awful predators looking to make them easy prey. Simple by nature, they developed a tribal lifestyle, somehow bumbling their way through history and surviving the worst of both yokai and nature. They are much the same as they were one thousand years ago, using nothing but simple spears and bows tipped in their own poisonous secretions to defend themselves.

Grung society is simple, with a single leader barely managing to hold things together. Should the leader perish in one of many assorted ways in the swamps of their homeland, the first one to name themself leader inherits the title. There is never conflict over this role, and there is no established hierarchy. The closest that grung come to conflict with each other is when two leaders vie for the title at the same time. At this point, the halves of the tribe closest to their respective leader split off into new tribes.
