Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegar

Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegār (Persian: شمشیر زمردنگار, 'the Emerald-Studded sword') is a sword in the Persian legend Shahnameh.

History

Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegār was forged by Kāve for the Legendary Persian Prince Milad. After Milad's death the sword fell into the hands of King Solomon. The Ifrit, Fulad-Zereh, steals Zomorrodnegar for himself, not only because it was a valuable weapon, & indeed the only weapon that could harm him, but also because it was a charm against magic. A wound inflicted by this sword could only be treated by a special potion made from a number of ingredients, including Fulad-Zereh's brain. Eventually the hero Amir Arsalan acquires the sword & defeats the Ifrit. The hero then creates a gruesome concoction of the burnt remains of Fulad-zereh & his mother, & sprays the potion over the petrified castle, rescuing the court. After Amir Arsalan's death the sword's whereabouts where left unkown.

Significance

The Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegar is a sword present in the Shahnameh, an epic poem of Persian myth. The sword nullified magic & delivered wounds that could only be healed by applying a special potion which required the Ifrit Fulad-zereh's brain.
