Mental characteristics
Takeru is the child of Emperor Keikō, ruler of the Yamato in the late first century & early second century. After he slew his brother Prince Ousu, Takeru was sent away because his father feared his bloodthirst. Ordered by the Emperor to kill those who refused to submit to Yamato rule, Takeru was given the sword Amenomurakumo-no-Tsurugi, which had long ago been retrieved from the monster Yamata-no-Orochi by the god Susanoo-no-Mikoto. Takeru killed men & gods in his adventures. In one famous tale, Takeru dressed as a woman to infiltrate a party before killing everyone there. In another story, he used Amenomurakumo-no-Tsurugi to create powerful gusts of wind & put out a fire in a field. Takeru lost his beloved wife Ototachibana-hime on the night of a storm, when she sacrificed herself to quell the rage of a sea God. Outcast by their family, friendless, & bereft of their beloved wife, Takeru slaughtered people, kings, & even gods as they continued along their path. At the end of their life, Yamato Takeru died from poison after battling the god of Mt. Ibuki. Their sword Amenomurakumo, eventually renamed Kusanagi, would go on to become one of Japan's three imperial treasures. After their long journey of conquest, their loneliness growing with each battle, Yamato Takeru's spirit became a white swan soaring through the heavens.
Despite identifying as a male, Takeru has no problem with crossdressing & will often dress androgynous.
Throughout Takeru's life he has killed multiple gods, including the gods of Ashigara pass, Kanagawa Coast & Mt. Ibuki.
When Takeru was a child, he murdered his older brother over a petty argument. This incident led Takeru to being cast out by his family. Later in life his own wife would sacrifice herself to save Takeru's life.
Takeru has no problem with killing others to achieve his goals. Willing to do anything to achieve peace. This very nature caused him to be seen as a monster by his own father.

History
In his adventures, Yamato Takeru met his aunt Yamatohime-no-mikoto, the highest priestess of Amaterasu at Ise Grand Shrine. She was the first person in Takeru's family who showed him any kindness, both bestowing unto him the Ame-no-Murakumo-no-tsurugi & the name Yamato.
Because of alot of Himiko's history being lost she's been conflated with Yamatohime-no-mikoto.
Relationship Reasoning
Yamato Takeru is endlessly grateful to Yamatohime-no-mikoto & is conviced that Queen Himiko is her. While Himiko doesn't remember Takeru at all.
