Claíomh Solais
The Sword of Light or Claidheamh Soluis is a trope object that appears in a number of Irish & Scottish Gaelic folktales. The sword appears commonly as a quest object in the Irish folktale.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The Claíomh Solais is actually a pair of runes engraved onto an ordinary sword hilt. The user can pour mana into the hilt to make a light blade of various sizes. Skilled wielders can also form it into different shapes. The two runes being ᚷ/Gyfu (Gift) & ᚳ/Cēn (Torch), making Claíomh Solais the gifted torch.
History
There have been multiple wielders of the Claíomh Solais. Such as Ferdiad & Leanan Sidhe.
Significance
It is said that Claíomh Solais is a symbol of Ireland. One that the wielder had to earn through a grand quest. Akin to King Arthur's Excalibur, or the Holy Grail.
