Orvis

Basic Information

Anatomy

Medium to large creatures. There is huge size variety within the species, with smallest being about the same size as Karni, and largest rivaling even Vulture Orcs. Orvis is one of the most diverse single species and commonly gets mistaken for other species, a fact they take full advantage of.   Difficulty in describing Korpis is that they can be fully covered in feathers, or not. They can be large, or not. Even their tail is really up to individual random genetic chance. By what seems like just a throw of a dice a Korpis can look exactly like Karakka for example. Only thing that is always certain is dark eyes. The exact hues vary from blue, purple, red, and brown, but from distance the eyes just look black.

Genetics and Reproduction

Orvis are a plentiful species. They have fertile seasons roughly every 2 years and each one results in up to 7 eggs. Survival rate of the eggs is abysmally low among all the species. They're also notorious risk takers and rogues, meaning even less survive to full adulthood, but with so many eggs and such frequency it doesn't really matter, the species thrives anyway.

Ecology and Habitats

If there is any food around at all, be it just dry roots or rotten carcasses, Orvis will survive, thrive, and make a profit out of it.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Curious and intelligent species, but also reckless and lacking in impulse control. Surprising amount of technological advancements comes from Orvis, or more precisely from their absolute lack of fear towards a process of trial, error, and injury or fatality.

Civilization and Culture

History

Origin of the species is hard to pinpoint as mentions of Orvis can be found very far back in history, all over the world, and they seem to thrive on all kinds of climates. Fair assumption would be that they came from the unmapped woods of the east, where all the other Corvid Troll species have been traced to. It is likely due to their adventurous and fearless nature that they were the first species to leave the woods, far before the beginning of written histories.   Orvis are usually well represented in armies and mercenary groups, but can also commonly be found in other dangerous professions, such as building structures in high places or adventuring on unknown territories. Sedentary lifestyle doesn't suit them so finding a farming Orvis is unlikely, but if an injury or age forces them to settle, they at least like to settle on high traffic locations, with plenty of social interaction. Trader and innkeeper are common professions for retirees.
