Session 16: Mayhem and Marauders
General Summary
The session began with the players performing their downtime activities with The Marauders, making themselves useful and gathering information. Leroy worked with the armorer, who disapproved of the prison break and viewed some of the newer Marauders with suspicion. Kenny helped with dinner, and Kutter went hunting and made friends with some of the oldest Marauders. Eventually, all the Marauders gathered for dinner, giving the players a good opportunity to get to know Ellie, who they got on well with.
When night came, the players were given a tent, but late at night they were awoken by soft footsteps outside their tent and noticed RM was missing. The players split up. Kenny and Leroy followed the man who had woken them, Vance, while Jason and Kutter went to find RM. Kenny and Leroy followed Vance out of camp carefully until they saw him speaking to a cloaked glowing man. Green light emanated from the man's hood onto Vance's face. Vance reported to the man, telling him that the plot to kill Ellie was going well and that the newcomers were sure to help. The cloaked man, who referred to Vance as Porter Gage, vanished into mist when they were done talking. The duo snuck back to camp, unaware that a stranger, Reshaun Sharos, had also observed the meeting and their eavesdropping.
Meanwhile, Jason and Kutter looked around the camp for RM and heard a commotion from Ellie's tent. They rushed in to find RM trying to kill Ellie. They pulled RM off Ellie, who was very upset by the encounter. They dragged RM back to their tent, where Kenny mocked her for her lack of subtlety. The next morning was awkward, to say the least, but they kept a close eye on RM. Around that time, Sharos joined the party, entering the camp and joining forces with the players after witnessing the secret meeting. The players struggled in this pit of vipers, unable to get Ellie alone to tell her the truth and unable to trust anyone as Porter Gage had many supporters.
Eventually, the players were able to get Ellie away from camp despite her hesitance. They rode far out of camp in her car and quickly informed her of the conspiracy against her. She struggled to believe it but didn't have long to doubt as Porter Gage and his men rolled up in their vehicles. Porter Gage asked why she was still alive, wondering why he even let the party into camp. With everything out in the open, Ellie floored it, and the chase began. Kutter and some of his friends from hunting, who were loyal to Ellie, joined the chase, attacking the horde of traitors from the rear. Reshaun lay far out in hiding, taking potshots at the enemies from afar. The players had their route planned out to maximize Sharos's openings to snipe the traitors.
The enemies were whittled down, but the players took hits too, eventually they passed by Sharos and he hopped on a car. Bullets, fists, and missiles flew until the remaining cars all collided, crashed, and scattered. With all his men dead, Porter Gage pulled out his last contingency: he donned a suit of raider power armor and busted out the side of the wreckage of his Humvee with weapons drawn.
