Personal history
Born in the slums of Tower Ton, John Ryse grew up knowing only survival and violence. His parents died when he was very young and so he was raised by the crew laws of the unhinged wasteland, for a time he ran with a youth raider gang made up of other orphans within Tower Ton. By the time the Brotherhood's Verti-birds swept over the settlement, John Ryse was already a young man, but this didn't stop him from being awe struck by the power and prestige of the knights clad in power armor as they touched off of their birds. They swept through the settlement, bringing justice to the warlords who had ruled over the wastelands for decades, and killing any mutant gang that stood in their way. John Ryse was the first in line to join the ranks of the brotherhood, though he was turned away by most knights due to his age, one aging knight took him in.
Knight Captain Ramirez was nearing the end of his time as a knight as his years were beginning to catch up to him, but he was still by far the greatest knight within the 3rd platoon as their commander. Squiring under Knight Ramirez, John quickly soared to the top his class despite being the oldest in it, when it finally came time for them to be sworn in as full brothers John Ryse was recognized with the Magna Valoris, a set of brass laurel leaves that signifies excellence within the training of brotherhood initiates. With this commendation, John squired directly under Knight Ramirez for the better part of two years, before Ramirez was gunned down by a large group of gunners calling themselves "The Keystone Patriots". In a rage, John killed all but three of this gunner gang, single handedly dispatching at least six confirmed gunners with his bare hand alone. His valor, courage, and ferocity proven and with the death of Knight Ramirez a new position opened within the 3rd platoon. John Ryse became a knight and was given the armor of Knight Ramirez, the brass laurels were welded onto the chest plate of the armor, surrounding the wings of the typical brotherhood banner. In honor of his courage and valor, John was awarded the Silver Leafs, a promotion of his Magna Valoris changing the color of his laurels from brass to silver.
John served as a knight of the 3rd platoon for five years, participating in countless engagements against all manner of mutant gang or raider group. When the knight sergeant of John's platoon became pinned by heavy fire, John used his own body to provide cover so that his commander could return to cover along with the rest of his squad. Unfortunately, later in that same combat, the helmet of his knight sergeant was struck by a guass round and the sergeant killed instantly. Rallying his squad, John flanked the enemy position and routed them from their entrenched position. For his actions John was awarded the golden leaf and promoted to the position of Knight Sergeant of the 3rd platoon's 2nd squad. 3rd platoon's 2nd squad is in charge of protecting Hoover Station, a key trade hub within the Reading Area and a strategic vantage point for the brotherhood in their war against the Enclave. Knight Sergeant Ryse has commanded the forces within Hoover Station for the past 3 years.
