Neveren
Neveren culture is defined by its citizens' famous craftsmanship, industriousness, and reputation for quiet cosmopolitanism, even after the city was devastated and rebuilt. Known as the "City of Skilled Hands" and the "Jewel of the North," the culture has evolved from a just and peaceful society to one shaped by its resilience in the face of immense destruction.
Culture
Shared customary codes and values
Neveren are traditionally characterized as:
- Civilized: Neverwinter has long been considered one of the most cultured and civilized cities in Faerûn, known for being a pleasant place to live and visit.
- Quiet and courteous: Historically, Neveren had good manners and a polite nature, preferring to conduct business briskly and quietly. They avoid conflict and controversial topics.
- Industrious: Neveren are hardworking and efficient, taking great pride in a job well done. This applies across all crafts and trades, not just specific ones typically dominated by certain races.
- Respectful of others: Citizens traditionally show great respect for deadlines, personal property, and the happiness of others.
- Following one's "weird": A unique Neveren phrase, "following one's weird," refers to pursuing an unusual or even reckless hobby or passion that brings one happiness. The culture is quite tolerant of these personal pursuits.
- Resilient: After the volcanic eruption of Mount Hotenow destroyed much of the city in 1451 DR, the survivors demonstrated an immense stubbornness and determination to rebuild. This resilience is now a proud facet of their culture.
Art & Architecture
As an old city of craftsmen, Neverwinter's architecture is historically diverse. The rebuilding following the cataclysm showcases many new and creative building styles. Notable landmarks include the intricately carved Dolphin, Winged Wyvern, and Sleeping Dragon bridges.
