Gond

Gond is the Faerûnian god of invention, craft, artificing, smithing, invention, and engineering. The followers of Gond are craftsmen, smiths, inventors, engineers, and anyone else involved in the creation of items. Gond's worship is particularly strong in the island nation of Lantan, where he was aided during the Time of Troubles. A neutral deity, his only rivalry is with Tempus, god of destruction, who wishes to tear down Gond's works.

Personal history

Worship of Gond first began two hundred and fifty years before Dalereckoning as part of a spiritual belief called the Adama. It was a pacifistic, monotheistic belief system that believed in a world-spirit, with the traditional deities of the Faerûnian pantheon viewed as aspects of this spirit. This belief system continues to be followed by the Durpari, who inhabit parts of the Shining Lands.

At some point before the 14th century DR, the followers of Gond began experimenting with gunpowder. However, due to the volatile nature of the substance, many clergy and worshippers were killed or maimed by it. Due to this, Gond magically prevented the rapid combustion of gunpowder across all of Realmspace.

During the Time of Troubles (1358 DR), when the deities of the Faerûnian pantheon were made to walk as mortals across Toril, Gond took the form of a gnome. He washed up on the shore on the island nation of Lantan, where the people took him in and protected him. As thanks, he revealed to them the secrets of smokepowder - a modified version of gunpowder with a magical reagent that allowed it to function properly. The nature of this substance, along with the designs of safe and accurate firearms, have remained a closely-guarded secret of Lantan and the Church of Gond ever since.

Gond was unaffected by the Spellplague and Second Sundering, and his Church has remained popular over the past century.
