Session 7: The Journey Begins
General Summary
Session 7 focused on the party’s efforts to solidify their base in Bastion before setting off to explore more of Barovia. The session began with several days dedicated to restoring parts of the village and crafting essential items.
The party worked together to fix up the inn, ensuring they had a safe place to return to. During this time, they also created a bow for Dorian and a Holy Symbol of Selune for Saphira, further preparing for the challenges ahead. Meanwhile, Hader took on the task of fixing the roof of the healer’s cottage, continuing the efforts to restore the village.
Nymeria, the stone-encased angel, provided a special stone to Saphira that would allow the party to teleport back to Bastion from any place of worship in Barovia. The stone could also be used to return to their original location, offering a vital means of escape or regrouping during their travels.
Before the party could depart, Hader attempted to craft Moon Tears to suppress his lycanthropy. Unfortunately, before he could drink the potion, he transformed that night. Upon waking, he found the potion destroyed and a game animal ritualistically displayed, warning him against attempting the process again. When the party found Hader in this state, they reassured him that they would support him and work through his curse together.
Afterward, the party finally set out for the village of Barovia, hoping to find Ismark, who could guide them on their journey to defeat Strahd. Along the way, they passed through the Gates of Barovia, taking in the eerie grandeur of the massive stone gates as they closed behind them, a foreboding reminder of the land they were now trapped in.
On the road, the party encountered a man named Rictavio, who told them he had been robbed by a group of dusk elf bandits. Among the stolen goods was his prized owlbear cub. Rictavio asked the party to track down the bandits and retrieve his cub, offering them a favor in return. He mentioned that they could meet him in Vallaki once they had the cub or at least learned its fate.
The party agreed and tracked the bandits back to their camp. However, the dusk elf bandits were not pleased to see the adventurers, and tensions quickly escalated into a confrontation. The session ended on a cliffhanger as the bandits prepared to attack.
