House of Plantagenet
The House of Plantagenent was not formally adopted as the dynasty's name until the 15th century. From the 12th century it was simply a nickname for the descendents of Geoffrey V, Count of Anjou, called 'Plantagenet' for his habit of wearing a sprig of yellow-flowered broom (planta genista in Latin) in his hat.
