The Zünjäger

The Zünjäger is a common fable told to children all across the Varin Empire. 
It tells of a shadow-like monster called the Zünjäger that hides out the corner of your eye and under your bed, the creature is also said to be able to walk through walls like a ghost. It is said that the Zünjäger watches from the shadows, hunting down all those who make prayer to false gods, dragging them into the dark, to never return.
The fable tells of a small boy from a small town. One day a traveller came to town, the traveller told a great many stories and spoke of a false god that guided them through their journey. 
The adults all dismissed the traveller, dragging the boy away, but the boy, entranced by the stories, snuck back to the traveller. The traveller told the boy that if he also prayed to this false god, that he too would be able to go on adventures. 
So in the dead of night the boy did just that, he prayed and prayed to the false god, but it was not the false god that came to him that night. A great shadow rose from beneath his bed, grabbing his leg and dragging him into the void. The boy was never seen or heard from again.
