Maran - Historical

Maran was a relatively young city compared to many of the other magocracies that ruled during the Age of Arcanum. The city barely survived the Sun Wars to remain the only floating city remaining in Hepsut.   Maran was dedicated to the Goddess of Magic Rhea, an aspect of the Goddess Hecate, one of the only cities in Exorsia that still worshipped the Gods.   During the War of Arcanum, Maran was the last of the floating cities the Gods came to destroy. What they found was only loyal followers who welcomed their arrival with prayers and offerings. Rhea herself is said to have defended Maran from the wrath of the Gods. In an act of mercy the city and its people were spared, making Maran the only floating city not to fall during the War of Arcanum.   The city of Maran remains airborne, its magic maintained by Hecate herself as a symbol of the might of magic and as a reward for the loyalty of Maran’s peoples.   To this day Maran remains a magocracy, practising age old traditions for an age past. Though much of the city’s ancient knowledge has been lost, destroyed in the Fall by order of Hecate.
