Elementals

Elementals are a group of species from the Elementalia ancestry and primarily originate from the Elemental Planes. Creatures of the Elementalia ancestry can be recognised by connection to the four elements, Air, Earth, Fire or Water, either having an elemental appearance, radiating with raw elemental energy, or by having innate Elemental Magic.

Almost all Elemental species are Immortals, ranging from Lesser Idols to Greater Idols. They are innately bound to one of the four Elemental Planes, carrying within them the elemental essence of one of the Elemental Planes, raw elemental energy that flows through their entire being. Genasi are the only Mortal species of Elemental, and are therefore exempt from a majority of the Elementals shared characteristics.

The Elementalia ancestry is slit into four groups, Air, Earth, Fire or Water, with each group having a connection to a different Elemental Plane, though there is a lot of overlap between groups.

The Elementalia ancestry is also split between True Elementals and Quasi-Elementals. True Elementals, which include Air Elementals, Earth Elementals, Fire Elementals and Water Elementals, are the physical manifestations of the Elemental Planes themselves, chaotic beings driven by primal instincts, having limited sentience and sapience, while Quasi-Elementals, which include the rest of the Elementalia ancestry, are more sapient, possessing more recognisable humanoid characteristics.

Shared Characteristics

General

Elemental Magic. Elementals all posses innate Elemental Magic, allowing them to cast an array of Spells associated with the Elemental Plane they are connected to. They are usually particularly versed in Evocation Magic.

Sex & Gender. Elementals are sexless creatures, often with no notion of gender. Though Quasi-Elementals have been known to take on masculine, feminine or androgynous appearances to suit their preferences.

Unchanging. Elementals are unchanging beings, they do not posses Souls or Free Will, and are incapable of acting out of character or reinventing themselves.

Quasi Elementals

Ageless. Quasi-Elementals cease to age once they reach maturity, but they can be killed, their bodies usually exploding in a burst of elemental energy.

Appearance. Quasi-Elementals are often humanoid in appearance, with those that share a similar Elemental Plane often having visual signifiers of their elements within their appearances, such as earthen skin, flaming hair or translucent watery bodies.

Elemental Resilience. Quasi-Elementals are all resistant or immune to the damage type associated with the Elemental Plane they are connected to.

Influenced Temperaments. Quasi-Elementals tend to reflect the temperament of the element they are connected to; Elementals of the Air are usually vivacious, flighty and prone to change; Elementals of the Earth are usually calm, patient and stubborn; Elementals of Fire are usually energetic, passionate and emotional; Elementals of Water are usually yielding, adaptable and mercurial.

Reproduction. Quasi-Elementals tend to be single-sex species that reproduce asexually, usually through laying eggs or by carrying live young, depending on the species.

Unnatural Nature. Quasi-Elementals usually don't need to breathe, and many don't need to eat or drink while in the Elemental Planes.

True Elementals

Ageless. True Elementals usually do not age and are usually created fully formed, but they can be killed, their bodies usually exploding in a burst of elemental energy.

Appearance. True Elementals almost exclusively appear as a mass of a single raw element, such as a sentient, blazing orb of fire, or a sentient, swirling vortex of air. Sometimes True Elementals take on more recognisably humanoid or beast-like shapes to interact with the world, but they rarely maintain such shapes.

Elemental Resilience. True Elementals are all immune to the damage type associated with the Elemental Plane they are connected to. True Elementals are also usually immune to poisons and resistant to damage from mortal weapons, many of them also can't be restrained by non-magical means.

Elemental Restoration. When a True Elemental is killed, it is theorised that it's essence returns to the Elemental Planes, where it is eventually reformed and reconstituted into a new Elemental, with no memory or connection to its previous form.

Primal Intelligence. True Elementals have a very primitive intelligence, driven purely by their chaotic base primal instincts to spread the influence of their elements.

Reproduction. True Elementals are incapable of reproduction, almost exclusively forming fully formed from the Elemental Planes.

Unnatural Nature. True Elementals don't need to eat, drink, breathe or even sleep.
