Kadesh: City of Jewels - Season 1 Ep. 3 Session 3 - Causing Trouble
General Summary
As they clambered out of Smuggler's Pass, Aeolus, Arsenius, and Eirkoris found themselves in a small back office. Looking around the room, they could see shelves and display cases full of unique items and in the far corner of the room, close to the door that led out of the room, was a desk chalked full of paperwork. The man standing before them greeted them and introduced himself as Kevalan, a friend and business partner of Mirt's.
As the character got to their feet, Kevalan explained to them where they were; in the Slutty Ducky, a tavern/strip club that doubled as the base for the bandit group known as Mirt's Mercenaries. The Slutty Ducky was located in Mirt's Market, the central sector of Kadesh. After that, he told them that they could find Mirt out on the main floor, for he was waiting for them.
The characters left Kevalan and went out into the bustling tavern section of this building. Sure enough, they found Mirt, who had been picked up by a passing fisherman soon after they left who had seen the boat heading for the rocks. Mirt then explained that he had a job for the characters and would pay them upon completion. The job, clear the Altranoyian Empire guards out of a warehouse that belonged to Mirt that had recently been taken over. Aeolus pressured Mirt into given them half right away and Mirt reluctantly agreed. Thus, the three set off to Braixen Warehouse.
Once they arrived, they tried to use stealth to take out the guards guarding the gate. Braixen Warehouse was a town story Warehouse at the end of an alley, so Aeolus climbed up one of the building nearby to get a better shot. Unfortunately, their plan for stealth did not go as smoothly as they had hoped and they were spotted and forced to fight. After clearing the guards out front and their reinforcements, the three made their way inside. Looking around, they managed to swipe a couple potions and a few valuables that they found. They tried to break into the vaults that lay in the back of the warehouse but were unsuccessful. Thus, they made their way to the second floor, where they managed to overhear a conversation between two people, later finding out it was commander Ezelda and a guard. As they tried to sneak into a more advantageous position, they were spotted and everything went to shit. Ezelda lit a fire to the documents in the room she was in while her guards attacked the adventurers. Aeolus, not wanting to let anyone go, jumped into the burning room and began to give chase to Commander Ezelda after seeing she was fleeing.
The fire quickly spread and Arsenius and Eirkoris realized they needed to escape. However, as they were making their escape, Eirkoris was fatally shot by a crossbow bolt from a guard just before Arsenius could cast a firebolt at him. With the unconscious Eirkoris and not a lot of time, Arsenius elected to carry his dying companion outside. Meanwhile, Aeolus chased Commander Ezelda out the balcony and onto the first floor roof before realizing that she was outmatched by the Commander and let Ezelda escape. Afterwards, Aeolus ran to the front of the building, hoping that her companions had escaped as the warehouse began to collapse.
As Arsenius carried Eirkoris outside, he ran into Aeolus who helped him bring Eirkoris away from the burning warehouse. Just as they got out of the warehouse grounds and onto the alley streets, they saw Mirt and a few other bandits running towards them. Mirt approached them and saw Eirkoris, who had lost all sense of a pulse. Thinking their companion was dead, Aeolus and Arsenius began to get mad at Mirt, where it was revealed that the warehouse was never his in the first place, rather he was the one who wanted to take it. Just before Aeolus attacked Mirt, they all turned and saw Eirkoris's eyes open and him shoot up, alive. As they questioned him, he didn't have many answer but could confirm that he was, indeed, alive. As the warehouse burned in the background, Mirt commanded his men to put out the fire while he returned to the Slutty Ducky with the three adventurers.
When they got back, Aeolus demanded that he pay them double, he told them to talk to Kevalan, who, upon hearing what happened, did so and apologized for what Mirt had put them through, stating that he had no idea.
